My dad was country as F#$K and did the same thing, he had a shaving bag he carried around when he traveled and got hung up in customs once over some lose 22 cartridges in the bottom.
All us Americans need to stop spending money traveling to Turks/Caicos and they will let these guys go

No thanks. I enjoy Turks. I'm not going to let some dumbasses ruin a good thing.

Count us out. Turks is one of our favorite places to visit. My husband is a huge hunter and we both have LTCs and we know better than to travel abroad with ammo in our suitcase. All luggage is checked before we pack. Ammo is taken very seriously in other countries.

Turks and Caicos
I don’t understand the appeal.
It’s a barren rock covered in cactus. It has absolutely no beauty above the water.
The beach, water, and diving are world class. Not everyone prioritizes man made things on vacation.
I love Turks because I love the beauty. Sitting on the beach with a waiter bringing me drinks from sun up to sun down, sprinkling in some snorkling right off the beach. You can still book private homes and upscale spots so you don't see white trash people.
Fun to moped around the national park areas too if you want an adventure.

These guys fricked up and should face the consequences as well.
Don’t bring shite you aren’t supposed to have into foreign countries.
On a practical level, sure. I have no intention of stripping these guys of agency or personal responsibility.
But we have no obligation to respect or value the stupid laws of another country in terms of how Americans respond to the situation. There is zero wrong with Americans telling T&C they'll bleed their tourism and punish their economy if they don't find a way out of imprisoning dads who have zero moral culpability/wrongdoing in any meaningful sense.

To be fair, weed does make you have short-term memory loss.
And apparently, in her case, quite unattractive.

Extortion. If enough people boycott them over technicality traps like this, they will either change their tune or starve.

Too bad for them. But if you are gonna travel abroad you need to know the rules and check everything. If not , then stupid you.
I don't disagree, but there is a line to be drawn between generally reasonable punishment and losing over a decade of your life in prison because you left a few stray bullets in your bag by accident.

Seems like TSA should have caught that first
I heard and interview with two of these guys on the Meat Eater podcast. One of them checked the bag on the way there and carried it on, on the way home.
Don't remember the other one.

Unless we're willing to release known terrorists in exchange for these guys, there's a BIG difference.....

They’ve made the mistake of not keeping the upscale prices on flights and hotels, and now it’s covered in undesirables.
This isn't true.
I will say that it has built up a lot over the last 10 years, and is much more crowded than when we first started going there.

I first started going to Provo about thirty years ago, it was a late developing island and there was almost nothing there, it was pretty nice, still a nice place, just getting pretty crowded, on a trivial note, my wife and I were in Provo when this happened, we left the day after old baw got busted, security line was almost out the front door when you usually breeze in and out of there pretty quickly

It’s an ongoing joke in our family that I get pulled for a “random” luggage search every time we fly out of Turks. It never fails. I don’t know what I did to get out on some list years ago but nothing goes into my bag now except dirty clothes.

In the end we just don't have to be ideologically consistent.
Those guys are "ours" and T&C is "them." It's perfectly reasonable and sound to favor us over them even if we acknowledge these guys screwed up in some limited fashion.
Throwing power and weight around is the natural and historic condition of negotiations and we have leverage over T&C. Perfectly fine to use it here, IMO.

Sounds like a lesson in FAFO
I’ll still be enjoying the beauty of T&C
Just make sure to bring the right luggage

my wife wanted to bring back a few bottles of PeppaJoy when we were there recently and I told her she'd either have to buy it inside security or check a bag, security was the first thing that came to mind, and we're talking a couple of bottles of hot sauce, not bullets

Or maybe I don’t want to risk losing over a decade of my life and miss my kids growing up over some draconian law that I accidentally break?
I am sorry people are shitting on your honeymoon spot but I can assure you most people here can afford a $3,000 vacation, it’s really not as exclusive as you think it is and there are plenty of other spots in the Caribbean to go on vacation.
