She had the same excuse as these people. She packed in a hurry and didn't realize it was in her bag.

Weed isn’t federally legal in the US, and you can’t fly with it. Ammo is legal in the US and it was a round of ammo. The situations aren’t comparable

It seems like a very odd coincidence that ALL 3 men had ammo in their bags.

I can understand 1 guy forgetting to check, but all 3 seems unlikely

I agreed with your post but i dont understand the part i quoted- as someone who is paranoid myself when traveling internationally , why would new luggage be advantageous ? Couldn’t you just as easily examine ur own old luggage for contraband before traveling ? Or maybe im a dumbass.

Dogs can smell weed remnants.

Seriously? Flying with weed in the US either goes unnoticed or is a slap on the wrist. While ammunition is legal in the US you cannot fly with it either. When you do it in another country that has different laws it's more serious.

These situations and the excuses from the parties are exactly the same.

I wonder if there would be profit to be made off smuggling ammo into turks and caicos or these really are just innocent dads.

The odds that all 3 accidentally had ammo in their bag seem farfetched

How many times have you been to Turks and Caicos

Once. We went to Grand Turk on a cruise back in 2011 and we quite enjoyed it. Very quiet and serene.

It's not farfetched at all. It happens all the time.

People are messy and careless, combined with the fact that loose ammo is small. They use the same bags for multiple purposes. TSA finds people regularly with guns, knives, ammunition, etc., that they didn't realize was in their bag. It happens overseas as well.

Just read there are now 5 Americans in custody for having ammo in their bags.

Are we really this dumb that Americans traveling there aren’t checking their luggage for ammo?

I hate to say it, but number’s 4 and 5 probably need prison time just because they’re stupid.

Who among us doesn't leave ammo in their gym bags? Bag I use for a class I take had spent 9mm shells in it. Had used it at the range a few weeks ago. No clue it was in there. Coulda been me (if I'd taken that bag on an international flight, which I wouldn't have because it's a gym bag, but you get the point).

PS: T&C is flat, arid and expensive. A 6pk of bottled Corona or Heineken will set you back around $22.00USD – $24.00USD. So you have to drink their crappy Turks Head Brew at $13.00USD – $15.00USD. No thanks.

30A is a much better option.

Sure you can, just not in your carry on.

Dumb comparison.

Intent usually matters in law. Accidentally leaving a couple shells in your carry on with no gun versus intentionally bringing weed that you can smoke is two different things.

The issue is not that they are looking or what they find, but the penalty.

Fine them $5,000 and move on. It makes no sense to piss off the country that makes up 82 percent of your tourists, and encumbers you with expensive court cases and prison expenses. It's stupid.
There is virtually zero chance they get 12 years. They are applying for exceptions and will likely get a few months tops.

In the meantime they are out on bond lying on a beach or drinking rum somewhere. Prayers sent.

If the WNBA player did the same thing as these people with the ammo…. people would be saying a 12 year sentence is warranted.

She should have known the laws, checked her bags, and not been so entitled!

Back to the topic. It doesn’t seem like any of these people will do the minimum 12 years. They are just trying to make example and get in the news, so other people will stop bringing ammo. Few months at most and fines. They don’t want the place to turn into a warzone like the United States.

American politicians know this and are grandstanding for press/votes.
