There's so much context missing from the story.
Are we talking some 19 y.o. Pimple faced kid named Eugene, or some 40 year old dude named Mohammed? Big difference.
Ultimately this is all the fault of the daughter and the father overreacting...but it could have seemed a lot more nefarious than is being let on, especially given the time and the unmarked car.

Does Uber have anything in place so that anyone under the age of 18 has to get an approval to get an Uber? Because if you see some random man bringing your daughter home late at night/early morning the first thing you would want to know is why is a 13 year old in his car.
Yes, Uber has a system for minors that sends notifications and/or approval requests to parents when the ride is requested. It also allows parents to track the rides of their children.
That said, I have no idea whether the driver’s app lets them know if they’re picking up a minor. I don’t see why it would need to, though - ultimately whoever requests the ride is either an adult or a minor with parental permission.
I have a daughter. I can understand the anger in that scenario. But if you’re going to force someone out of their car at gunpoint, you better be damn sure that you’re on solid legal ground. He’s not “protecting” his daughter at that point; his daughter is back at home. He’s looking for someone other than his daughter to blame for her behavior.

Thats where his anger should have been from the start.
So if a guy on the Internet seduces a 13 year old and has her meet him, you're saying all the anger needs to be addressed at the 13 year old? No Chris Hansen? Just ground the 13 year old and that's the end of it?
Because this is exactly what the dad believed had happened. How the frick is he supposed to know the guy is an Uber driver? All he sees is an old baw pull up with his daughter in a Nissan Altima.
Uber is a fricked up business. People figured out decades ago that taxis need to be marked and licensed. Somehow Uber believed that moving away from this model was a good idea.
Again, I will say that Uber needs to ban minors from getting rides. Anyone can call an Uber to pick up anyone, so it's impossible for anyone (other than the driver) to verify it. And evidently Uber does not make their drivers check IDs.

This might be relevant if the guy was, in fact, an internet pedophile. Hell, pulling him out of the car at gunpoint and holding him until the cops showed up might have actually been legally justified (not sure how the law reads in FL).
But he wasn’t.

How is he supposed to know? Well for starters, because the guy presumably told him. After all, the dad demanded to see his Uber information while illegally detaining him. You don’t get to hold someone at gunpoint because you’re suspicious of them. Or in this case you can.. but be prepared to face the consequences.

12 moms and dads avoid jury duty, as evidenced by this board repeatedly trying to figure out how to get out of jury duty. He’s more likely to get immigrants that are fearful of having guns pulled on them for doing nothing wrong. Those are the people that do not know how or do not try to get out of jury duty. Good luck!

Have the drug traffickers, sex traffickers and rapists started bringing their victims back to the parents the way this Uber driver did? This would be the first time I have ever heard of it happening but it must be a thing since that is what the gun wielding father allegedly thought happened here.

A driver should never be picking up an unaccompanied minor.
I agree 100%. Who are all these downvoters that can’t see why a father would be upset? We must have a bunch of pedos on this board, because a grown man should never under any exception be picking up a random 13 year old girl unaccompanied by a parent/ guardian.

I would think that a 13 yo who is determined enough to sneak out and go to another city is probably going to find a way to circumvent this.

Dude was already texting his prayer circle about how he broke up a human trafficking ring while he had the Uber driver on the ground.

No shite? Police aren't your babysitters, Bat Dad.

He is seeking sympathy and empathy for himself but shows none for the driver he traumatized. Where is the apology for the driver who did nothing wrong? Being a concerned parent doesn't make it OK to hurt others.
He insisted on people knowing he is a veteran but he should have also insisted that an apology make it into the interview.
