We have a birthday gathering for a buddy that loves Malbec...I believe the dessert will be Ding Dongs...

If not Ding Dongs, what else?

Ding Dongs are an excellent stand-alone dessert. Might include a few Raspberry Zingers for the fools that don't like Ding Dongs. I guess you could offer some Clark Bars.

They aren't the same ding dongs from your childhood. Taste like sweet wood glue.

If you drink enough Malbec it pairs well with anything.

Actually those are better prepared with liver and a nice chianti.

Alright I will give a serious answer: No. Malbec can work well with Dark Chocolate, but would be unlikely to work with something as cloyingly sweet as a Ding Dong.

Chocolate can be a difficult pairing, but rarely does it actually pair well with dry red wines.

Most people would pair them with a Tawny Port, or maybe a Pedro Ximinez.

Merlot can pair with Milk Chocolate sometimes.

You can try something like an Amarone and that may work if you want to stick to dry reds.

Banyuls which is another dessert wine would also be perfect

Chocolate pairs well with about any robust red wine. Save the Pinot for cheese.

After enough Malbec, anything pairs well....Until that sugar starts mixing. Just make sure someone's driving him home by that time.
