It's astonishing to me that all of you who want us to throw up as many 3's as possible can think Allen is more valuable than Herb.

Because the likelihood of getting a big who can hit a 3 and be a starter playing 28+ minutes is slim, but that doesn't mean you should just punt on the position and be shitty at it just because you can't get a big who can shoot the 3. I don't follow your logic here.
This goes back to the discussion we were having last week, every time we discuss a trade, and someone says they like it or would do it, that does not mean it's the top option and that poster's #1 favorite trade. It's just discussing that particular deal at the moment.

FYI Simmons, who loves Herb, ranked Herb at 72 and Allen at 45 in terms of trade value at the deadline.
And I know it's not value but the Ringer top 100 which involves a composite ranking from quite a few Ringer dudes votes...it has Herb at 69 and Allen at 49. It's updated through 4/10 of this year.

I'm just 99% sure that we aren't trading Herb. He's the defensive leader of the team, and his work ethic challenges everyone else. More than anyone else, Herb is responsible for Zion buying in on defense and actually becoming a good defender by the end of the season.

I agree it's not easy to find that guy.
It also doesn't mean we should give up Herb to get a guy that we dont need to give up Herb to get.
I"m not punting the position. It just makes no sense to give up Herb to get Allen when there are other options at that position that can give you what Allen would give this team. Notice how i said what Allen would give this team, and not "are just as good as Allen". I fully acknowledge he's a really good 5. One of if not the best non shooting 5 in the league.
I gave you a list of several guys who are good enough defenders for our team at the 5, some of which are easily attainable by us without giving up Herb.
Give me your list of guys that can do what Herb does as an elite defensive wing.
I'm not moving Herb so CJ can be our starting SG. That does not make us better. Jarrett Allen can not cover up defensively for CJ in the playoffs.
I'm ok with replacing BI with Trey.
I'm not ok with CJ being the PG if that happens.
I'm also not ok with CJ taking Herbs spot either.
Our new starting lineup should be PG/Herb/Trey/Zion/C
If CJ is the PG to start the season, fine, but id' expect to deal him at the trade deadline, which is kind of what most of us expected when we resigned him anyway.

One factor that was not in place at the trade deadline are the 2nd apron teams looking to shed salary. Hopefully they can find an alternative path.
Also, I'm not sure how this will impact BI's trade value or the Pels decision making processes, but Paul George apparently is headed to Free Agency.

So he wants 4/$220M and the Clippers have reportedly offered him slightly less than that.
Sounds like PG wants to maximize his earnings and this is his last chance for that huge contract.
If he's declining his $48M for next year to sign a new deal, sounds like the Sixers and Magic have already told him they'll offer the full max to him.
PG....your money goes a lot further in Florida than it does in California.

It's also an acknowledgement that the Clips' plan has failed and they need to blow it up.

Lakers took Griffin to the bank on the AD trade. And why is he going to be allowed to fix the pile of manure that he caused for 5 years?
Almost as bad as these POSs in CONgress that f-cked up the country but have a"solution" 25+ years later.
Man yall really can add politics to anything

Well you're talking about a list that has Brandon Ingram at 29.

Feels like a lot of teams who went all in with the win now moves are struggling or out already. The teams who build through the draft and maybe signed a couple role players or starters are playing well.

He’s definitely more valuable than Herb, but Ingram has more value than Allen

I'd guraantee if you polled non Pels and non Cavs fans or the Zach Lowes of the world, none would say Herb has more trade value than Allen.

I will also say, and I almost posted this in the Ant thread because Ant very clearly had that IT factor visible even as a rookie. You know who else has shown IT as a rookie that’s on the Pels? Jordan Hawkins. You ask where the scoring when the defense clamps down will come from if we trade BI? If Hawkins can get his defense good enough for Willie, I think Hawkins is that guy. He has an absurdly quick release, irrational confidence, and the poise of a champion.

If you've listened to Russillo and Simmons talk about the all defense teams they state that if they were just putting the top 10 most impactful defensive players they have 10 rim protectors on the list. Instead they choose to essentially assign positions to players and make it look like it would be a real team with both rim protectors and perimeter defenders.

The more I think about this , understanding and hypothesizing how griff operates…I keep coming back to Zach Lavine , if he moves BI at all.
Zach Lavine allows griff to get a value trade , which he typically pursues . Think Lavine and Caruso , plus Maybe a pick or two . The incoming potential on paper looks like more than what is going out .
I can see this in conjunction with a cj move , say to Detroit or Orlando , or using a team like Detroit as just a third team while holding on to CJ.

No one wanted Lavine at trade deadline. His contract is massive and he has constant knee issues. I just don’t see any way how this makes us better. We’re basically getting draft picks to eventually dump another guy not really make our team more competitive or better. Hard pass.

Absolutely no way that I'd trade BI for Lavine.

You mean the same guys who think Herb should be 1st All - Defense?
Or another way to put it, same dudes who vote for All Star, of which Allen has been on before.
See the examples already given of the Trade value column and composite player rankings....

I wasn't trying to imply that, nor am I saying Hawkins is a future superstar. I was saying that between his shot making skills and his IT factor, I think he can be the guy you want to get the ball with the game on the line.
I was responding to Teddy who's main reservation against trading BI is that in the playoffs you need someone that can get a shot off regardless of what the defense is doing, especially if they are packing the paint against Zion.

I can see BI being the fall back to a team that misses on Paul George.
I do wonder if we could be in play for PG in a sign and trade with the Clippers. I have no idea how the salary cap works now, but he could be the alpha we need.
