I' havent been following this for long time. Anyone know what the plan will be for students living in St George that currently go to EBR Magnet schools?
There isn’t one yet. The “your kid is going to get kicked out of the magnet school as soon as this passes” was just a scare tactic by Together Baton Rouge.

LOL at LSURussian the "principled conservative" boomer who is oddly liberal on many issues
So many people in the private school community and without kids wanted St George to fail. They need St. George to prop up the bubble they live in, in Baton Rouge proper.

Oh that was a total joke. You couldn't pay me to run for public office these days.
I'm also not exactly what St. George voters would probably vote for. Doubt they want a 35 year old gay man as mayor

So I can come home now?
Finally??
Finally??

Probably not, but it probably would be an improvement over our parish mayor.

Not a progfilth, big gov, war-mongering kiddie-diddler.
If he's America First, I couldn't care less about who's d*** he s***s.

True, but that such a low bar

The people of Baton Rouge can thrive now that those evil white supremacists have been removed from their city. They were clearly a tumor on the city which needed excised.

I'm for St. George. I live in the heart of it. I also have a child starting at BRMHS next year. Woodlawn High is a zoo. Hopefully, a magnet deal is worked out. Seems like I recall there was a deal done with Central.

Central kids cannot attend Magnet Schools.
Once St. George is set up, will they have to vote to create their own school system. I believe that is how Central formed. Had to become a city before school system was approved. I believe there was separate votes for each.

Aren't citizens of St. George also in East BR Parish? Isn't the school district a Parish function, not city function?

Saban retires and now STG is greenlighted. I might not have a bad day for the next three years.

Normally, but there can be independent school districts in certain cases (Central, Baker, Zachary and oddly enough, the City of Monroe).

They are located in East Baton Rouge Parish, but the main impetus for forming a new city (at least initially, from what I recall) was that parents within the unincorporated area were not happy with the EBR school system and wanted their own school district in the unincorporated area.
The Zachary School District formed for this very reason. So did the Baker School District. I think (but I'm not sure) that Central operates in the same way.
If St. George is allowed to form its own school district, then it's going to be interesting to see what happens when the legacy costs that the EBR school system is currently paying are offloaded on the new St. George School district. It's one of the reasons why taxes are so high in Zachary.

Yeah that was the whole point of this initially. St. George wanted their own school district, but was told you have to incorporate first to do that.

No they didn’t. Zachary has been incorporated since 1889 and Baker since 1944.

I wasn't clear in my post. I was referring to the formation of the school districts (not incorporation of the actual cities).
