I’d let them grow up. Most kids in college are stupid.
You wouldn’t use that moment to teach an integral life lesson?

That is extremely poor parenting on your part.

Tell them how stupid and meaningless 99.9% of protests are, then laugh at them.

Bring the kid home, I would not leave my child in such an environment. Make them work for a year and save enough to get back in school at a local college.

What if he said, "I'm just doing it to get laid, Dad."

Progressive women are generally hideous.

If Scruffy had a son, he would cut him off even faster.

Ask them simple questions like “why are you protesting?”

Shouldn't this be the first question?

Are they just doing it because of their friends, to get laid, because they are misguided in their beliefs, they don't have all of the facts, you don't have all of the facts and are actually misguided in wanting them to stop?

I hold my college kid accountable for his grades. His tuition is covered by scholarship, so I pay his housing and he pays his food. If he loses that scholarship I’ll still help with housing, but he will have to figure out how to pay tuition and food. I don’t micromanage what he does with his time. I do not think he’d participate in any kind of protest.

If your kid is supporting terrorist groups, you have failed as a parent. Period.

You never stop guiding your kids. My dad did that to the day he died. He knew a lot more at 80 than he did at 30.

You don’t “let” your kids grow up. You help them.

I’m glad my parents didn’t “let” me grow up.

I raised my sons where they know better than to get involved with those idiots.

Hopefully a life of treating them as young adults in their teen years pays off. They may have different societal views or political views than me, that is healthy. But they need to know the possible negative consequences of their actions both on themselves and others.

Pointing out a healthier way to protest may be accepted if they trust you

My first reaction would be about how much money it's going to save me...

This.
If you choose to participate in such things that’s your choice, but my money will not help fund your dumb decisions to skip class and protest.

The power of social media brainwashing is understated imo. My kids (18-30 y/o) have from time to time mentioned basic shite rhetoric you hear being spewed by the left. These are mild-mannered, suburban private school kids. After talking through issue with them, they tend to realize the bs they're hearing (not always, but usually). It's amazing how they've been manipulated by constant pounding on social media, professors, etc.

So protesting a literal leech on America who at the same time bombs the frick out of kids....

.... is something that warrants you having a sit down discussion with your child?
