re: Zach Lowe & Kevin Pelton can't imagine a world where Trey isn't starting next year

The case against keeping Brandon longterm is pretty straightforward;
And BI is slow and a halfcourt player on a team that's otherwise built to win with a defense that generates turnovers and then converts in the fast break.
One of the main reasons that we do so well with Jose is on the floor is that he pushes the pace, and we often find opportunities in semi-transition before the other team can fully set their defense.
BI walks the ball up the court. It's like the old Gentry teams with Tyreke slowly walking the ball up -- the slow pace just isn't a fit. (This is also a problem with JV that doesn't get enough attention.)

I don't really get the Isaac love.
If you put Herb Jones in a machine and stretched him to 6'11", you would have Jonathan Isaac.

Agreed. The only thing that has stopped this guy has been bad injury luck. If he’s healthy hes easily all defensive candidate guy.

Bad examples IMO. I'd take every single one of those guys over BI without even thinking about it. Even old arse Butler
well no shite, so would I.
That wasn't the point.
You think BI's game is obsolete b/c he shoots too many mid range shots and not enough 3's, when there's other guys out there that take just as many mid range shots and not enough 3's.
BI's game isnt' obsolete. He's just not playing it at the level those other guys are. He has all the tools necessary to to succeed at it. Some guys just don't reach that next level, despite the physical tools necessary to get there.

I think that Herb and especially Trey have improved their rebounding since the start of the season. That's really the key to making a small-ball lineup work. Oh, and it obviously didn't work early in the year when Zion was fat and not rebounding.
Trey wasn't playing in the first 21 games of the season
It hasn't worked even with in shape Zion.
During our 25-12 run when everyone was healthy and in shape, that lineup only appeared in 11 games for 26 minutes, and it was a -28.8 NetRtg.
And over half of those minutes were in the 4th quarter, where they had a -45.8NetRtg.
It boggles my mind.

It's not so much that BI's game is obsolete, its that his game doesn't fit with a lineup including Zion/Herb. He plays too slow. He doesn't pressure the rim. He refuses to space the floor. He's an average defender and rebounder. He's a scorer first and a good playmaker.
People aren't necessarily anti-BI, but rather just recognize that a different set of skills would better maximize a core of Zion/Herb/Trey.

This is the big issue.
When BI gets a head of steam, just like Zion, he's incredibly hard to stop. I wish he'd attack the paint more like that instead of trying to methodically keep his defender on his hip or side and then shoot a fadeaway.
BI's Eurostep has been really good this year, and we need to see more of it. He's honestly one of the closests players to Giannis in these regards. Yes Giannis is obviously a lot better, but who gets to the rim and uses their long stride and arms to easily get buckets over people like BI does?
The fact that BI is only taking 14% of his total shots at the rim over the last 4 years is a bigger problem than the lack of 3's if you ask me.
I listed all those guys. SGA doesn't take the 3's, but he gets to the rim a lot more than BI does, and the other guys that shoot as many mid range shots as BI might not get to the rim as much either, but they shoot a lot more 3's.
It's not that BI doesn't take enough 3's, or doesn't get to the rim enough. It's that he doesn't take enough 3's AND he doesn't get to the rim enough. If he simply did one of those a bit more it would help tremendously.

And that's not a bad thing. The bad thing is CJ is a really bad defender, and the two of them don't make for a good backcourt.

I do'nt disagree. But i also recognize his mid range creation skill is still needed in todays game, we just all wish he'd not shoot so many of those during the first 3 quarters of the game.

Exactly. And all of that is amplified as a co-star to a high usage player that shoots 75% of his shots at the rim and 1.5% from the perimeter. All the guys you listed either get to the rim or shoot more 3's than BI and generally also have co-stars that shoot 3's, defend, and rebound more than Zion.

Bi Plays offense like a sloth.
That is why he always gets blocked from behind

Hopefully we can hurry up and get swept so this season can end.

Some people? you mean people on here? Hell i'm one of the idiots that have said plenty of stupid shite over the years. I wanted to trade Zion's arse at the beginning of this season, as did many of us. No one wants to talk about those stupid opinions anymore.
I had to laugh when y’all wanted to trade him for Lauri earlier this year. I thought that was stupid then and all of you know I’m the biggest Lauri guy on the board from years ago when he was on the bulls…

I’m sure the guys playing right now share your same sentiment….
Might as well go into the off-season with the same mentality.

No one is making tou watch the pelicans. Root for a different team if you’re going to act like that. Such a dumb thing to say.

He is just a wannabe basketball savant with all the answers to fixing the franchise…
I will say, that he is correct in the fact that the Pels won’t spend the money to be a serious franchise…which is unfortunate. We will certainly try to remain competitive, but you won’t see us make a drastic move that could make or break the team.

Reality is he plays basketball at the ymca and has no experience in the media or a NBA front office.

Not sure about that. Ever since Grififn came in, they got a new facility, new health department and scouting department. He even said that Gayle Benson will pay whatever is needed.
Posted on 4/24/24 at 7:51 am to duyp
Agreed. I believe we were paying 3 different head coaches at once when Willie was hired. That's money Gayle Benson committed. I may be in the minority, but I fully believe we will be a tax team when the right opportunity presents itself.

Ditto. So many want to make something out of the fact that we haven't gone into the tax the last few seasons, but there was no real need to do so. This coming offseason is the one that I have circled as the one that we will have to decide to make a real commitment and be a tax team, or I'll likely join the other side of the ledger.

This season we were the 4 seed with about 3 weeks to go in the season.
The opportunity clearly presented itself these past 2 seasons, we did nothing to capitalize on it. We actually went the other way and made moves to avoid the tax and giving up multiple draft picks to do so.
There's a very logical argument that if we made a move to get better and thus go into the tax before last season's deadline, that we would have been a top 6 seed in each of these last 2 seasons.
