I’ve noticed DOTD crews picking up trash more frequently since January.

There is absolutely no reason they can't have prisoners that have 2-5 year sentences out picking up litter on the highway
It still happens, the prisoners of Rayburn Correctional Center, the prison in Washington Parish still pick up trash on the highways. I don’t think they do interstates but they still do state highways.

Well the Lt. Potato (Nungesser) is in charge of Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
Maybe they are starting early to make sure the city is clean for the Super Bowl next year.

"Toss a Route 44 cup out the window"? I shop at Albertson's & I often see piles of crawfish trash laying in the middle of the parking lot, trash bags of chicken bones, empty chip bags, cups of all sizes. As in ash trays full of cigarette butts dumped in a pile. There is "litter" & then there are trash dumps. Then when I visit my son in Japan, I see zero litter. Of any kind, anywhere.

I don't know about I-10 but drove down ole HWY 1 through Golden Meadow a few weeks ago. I know they got hit by a big storm a couple years ago but damn. At one place I saw a tarp over a shed with collapsed columns that has the roof now 2 feet off the ground. I guess they crawl in and out to get whatever they need. I guess they either didn't have insurance or don't trust anyone that would want to help. I feel sorry for the folks south of the levee but Hwy 1 does look much cleaner down that way. T Raymonds house is about all that is left between Leeville and Golden Meadow.

It’s not as much a litter problem as it is a cultural problem.
You could literally run litter pickers daily in La

Give those volunteers, especially the ones in Baton Rouge who are very active in trying to make a noticeable difference with litter, all the credit in the world.
Those are some very good people.

The city maintained routes in Baton Rouge and Lafayette are still filthy from curb to curb, but the sidewalks and green space alongside are mostly clean thanks to Keep Tiger Town Beautiful.
Is there not a parish owned street sweeper that can clean up the road debris that is collecting in the gutters and in the neutral spots at the intersections? Loose substrate and aggregate from the deteriorating roads are a bit of an issue.

Do you honestly believe the Governor is having trash picked up on the side of the interstate?
Posted on 4/22/24 at 8:58 am to yaboidarrell
I'll be a son of a bitch if the weather hasn't been better also.
Posted on 4/22/24 at 9:35 am to yaboidarrell
I have not seen any difference.
If there is... that's great... and if Landry is pushing this at DOTD, then credit to him.

Litter pick up should be an alternative option for non-moving traffic violations, amongst other things rather than the state paying dotd workers to pick up trash. I wonder how much money we waste paying people to pick up trash.

How much of the litter on the side of the interstate is just shite flying out the back of pickup trucks?

Litter is what sets Louisiana and the Deep South from the rest of the country.
I guess you’ve never driven through Sacramento, CA? Worse than anything I’ve ever seen in Louisiana. Have a look at these pics from a road just north of there called Dyer Lane.
The freeways through the city are bad too. Not to this degree but still filthy.

I was able to confirm that the sky has been bluer than ever since Jeff Landry took over.
There are even less weeds in my lawn this year. Thanks, Jeff.

I usually tune out when I see his mouth moving but Lt. Gov Nungesser spoke at an event I attended and said litter abatement was going to be a major emphasis. Talked about increasing fines and better enforcement but also more emphasis from local government to clean up the roads, etc. Take it for what it's worth.
