This is an excellent essay by the estimable "Theodore Dalyrymple":

quote:

I was recently consulted in the prison in which I work by an
inmate who was the proud father of two children. I asked him
whether he still saw them: continued contact with their
biological offspring being something of a rarity among the
imprisoned paternal community. Instead of answering me
directly, he rolled up his sleeves and pointed to two tattoos
on his forearm, red hearts with scrolls across them bearing
the names of his children—two tattoos among many others,
needless to say. He hadn’t seen either of his children for
years, and had never contributed anything to their upkeep.
Indeed, the idea that he should have done so was so completely
alien to him and to the mores of the world in which he moved
that the thought had never crossed his mind, even fleetingly.
By contrast, he obviously believed that his tattoos were a
sign of genuine devotion to his children. Their names were
engraved, if not on his heart exactly, at least on hearts
painfully engraved on his skin, and one could easily imagine a
touching deathbed scene in which he would be reunited at last
with his children and would there show them the tattoos as
proof that he had never really forgotten or abandoned them.
They would probably accept this as having been true, and
therefore forgive him his dereliction of duty.

Your entire body looks like shite when you're 80 regardless lmao. Worst point in any argument ever.

If a tattoo is the worst thing she does then she's doing pretty good imo. There's far worse you should be worried about nowadays.

Some people aren’t trashy and have higher goals for their children.

I don’t care sleeves or all that crap but getting a discreet one that means something to you is good by me.

Tattoos are a way for people to be ‘creative’ without actually having to ever actually do or achieve anything in a competitive environment. The more we allow people to work from home and not respect their companies, the more society will become trashy.

Both children and adults need supervision and we’re a better society with such. Somehow, we’ve allowed today’s 20-35 year olds the ability to feel like they can call the shots and that they have a right to dictate things without any accountability.

The American middle age and youths need a hard lesson in tough love and that your actions may have reactions you don’t like. I’m glad I’ll be retiring in a handful of years.

I got an arm sleeve last year. It's only supposed to last up to 5 years and eventually fades off.

This is true. I don't remember anyone in my high school in the 80s that had one. It was considered trashy. People started getting more during grunge but if you got one it was "special". Since then everybody has been doing it to be different to where not having them makes you different.
This is not a fad anymore, we are fricking Picts.

Maybe not fade out, but I could see it shrinking over time.

A lot of people are getting tattoos of dickbutt on their tramp stamp area these days. I would at least consider that as it leaves little to no room for regret.
