Energy Star recommends keeping the temperature between the outside world and your home as close as is comfortable in order to be the most efficient and reduce energy costs.

The agency recommends keeping your air conditioner at 78
These two recommendations contradict each other.

I keep mine 78 at night and 85 while I’m at work all day. When I get back from work, I turn it back down. I know I wouldn’t be able to do this if I wasn’t single.

72 during day while we’re are at work/school
Drop it to 71 when we get home and drop t to 69 at night.
A/C is not just for keeping temperature setting is south LA it is also for dehumidification.
Setting to 78/82 means the unit will not run enough to dehumidify.

In Texas we have to do that so we don’t break the grid. A state that leads the country in energy production can’t keep the lights on.

The Texas energy grid is fine, but please make yourself as uncomfortable as possible, it will make no appreciable difference.

for bedrooms, 78 during day and 77 at night. with ceiling fan on low, that's rarely not comfortable. main house is 78 all the time. our house and our bedroom has 18 ft ceilings so that helps, I think. Of course, upstairs (where no one sleeps) is pretty warm. at night our little 8" "white noise" fan can be pressed into actual fan duty if we point it at the bed

We keep it on 70 during the day and 67 at night. Plus I have a portable ac in my bed room set on 61 that runs.

The agency recommends keeping your air conditioner at 78? when you’re home in the summertime, 82? when you’re asleep and 85? when you’re away.
I think it was maybe about 5-6 years ago when we installed new thermostats. The first thing I did was set both on 70 degrees. The only thing I’ve done since is swap from heat to cool based on the season. And this agency can want in one hand and shite in the other if they think I’m going to do anything different.

The beings that dream Ip this crap already hate Southerners, anyway.
They like too see suffer in the same way they hate ppl in the military.

During the brutal hot summer months (May to October)…
I set it at 75 during the day
70 when I go to bed
The AC literally never goes off unless I turn it off

72 during the day, 69 evening, 65 at night. South Florida is hot.

The new thing on some AC units is DRY mode. The air conditioning slows the fan to allow more humidity to collect on the coil.
Everyone would benefit greatly from adding a good dehumidifier and a couple of fans (floor, not ceiling) to their homes during the Summer. It helps tremendously.
