The market for EVs just isn't that big.
Subject is market, which is singular, and your verb must match. It makes it easier to ensure your subject and verb agree if you remove the prepositional phrase, in this case "for EVs."
The market aren't that big? Nah. Obviously wrong.
The market isn't that big? Yea. Much better.
You're welcome.

Which means get a maverick or ranger or tacoma for way less money

I'm a simple guy, therfore I don't understand guys who buy $80k vehicles!.

Fwiw,
Obviously the price reductions are just on the msrp. You can easily get a lightning for nearly 15k -20k off msrp if you really wanted. Lot of dealers offloading their 23 stock with 7k-12k discounts and the additional 7500 Biden bucks tax credit if you qualify.

To each their own but this isn't bad for a $80k

The price would be zero because this truck would not exist without governmental influence.
Agree. I meant an F150 if they didn’t have to appease DC with these electric trucks nobody wants.

What woke company is going to make them their fleet
I can see the govt and military buying them for maintenance workers on bases….If they can get them down to the $50k range
TBH No EV should exceed $50K unless it’s a high performance vehicle

Man, I remember them trying to charge people like 20k+ MSRP. I guess the law of supply/demand has finally kicked in.

The market for EV's just aren't that big. They aren't selling many of these Lightnings. The Hummer EV and Silverado EV aren't popular either.
The market for electric trucks is really limited and it's certainly not in the high end consumer version. GM was focusing the Silverado on the commercial market so it'll be interesting to see if it's success is better than the lightning. I know a couple big companies that have orders for several thousand of the Silverado EV W/Ts.

No thanks. I wouldn’t buy it for half that.

That's what I'm talking about. It's not value for money

If there was zero government mandates on vehicles, the price of vehicles would be probably 30-40% lower.

Naw. They sell a brand new Lightning for 35k all-in and I'll sign the papers today.

Imagine being stupid enough to pay $70K for a truck that can only go about 350 miles empty and half that if pulling a trailer.
This is my range if I am lucky, The only difference is it doesn't take me six hours to fill up my tank.

Almost $80,000 for an electric quarter ton truck that isn’t anywhere CLOSE to as good as its gas counterpart

I wonder how the US Forest Service's pilot program for them has gone. Back in 2022 they got three to test in their fleet. They have had the goal of "zero emissions" by 2027 foisted upon them by the government. There is all of zero news regarding how their testing has gone, which isn't surprising being that is probably the worst application imaginable for that vehicle.

Probably easier than putting a V8 in a Tesla. The Ford is the gas truck frame I believe. Including the transmission jump in the firewall.

$70k is definitely not worth it.
Honestly, wouldn’t pay that for any vehicle.

I think most people aren't opposed to EV's as a general concept. However, they don't see them as beneficial or cost-effective enough to outweigh the more trusted and reliable gas powered vehicles. And forcing an undesired product on the marketplace largely on the basis of "combating climate change" (which most people could not give any less of a shite about) is NOT the way to sway public opinion.
If when the EV tech/benefit improves along with the perceived value, the demand will go up organically...like most things always have in the marketplace.
Just look at cell phones. Initially, no one wanted them. They were overly expensive and most saw them as an unnecessary luxury without significant enough benefit to justify the cost. Then the technology improved and they became cheaper. At that point the market became more willing to invest and people started to realize some perceived benefit to their costs. Eventually, cell phones were ubiquitous. And people were happy just being able to call one another anytime, anywhere. The the iphone came out. At first, again, people saw it as largely an unnecessary luxury item. But once the market realized how much more it could do relative to the existing cell phone it became almost a necessity.
Right now the government (particularly one wing of the government) is trying to force those old bag car phones on the public. A public that does not want it. Instead, if the manufacturers would simply continue to improve the technology and relative costs of EV I can foresee one day EVs becoming as in demand, if not more, than our current vehicles. But that timeline doesn't fit within the existential crisis of "climate change" (on a planet that is 6 billion years old). So the market is getting fed crap it doesn't want and rejecting that crap because of it.
