Did you know if you are pulled over for a routine traffic stop and you have an expired insurance card they will tow your vehicle? We all know that your license plate is ran before officer do-better gets out his car. They can clearly tell if you have insurance by running the plate. I asked the cop why he couldn’t just go off his laptop info and he said the department doesn’t like him to go off of that. We are anything but free in this country…… police freaking suck. I would never tow someone’s car if I was a police officer when I knew they had insurance.

Why are you mad at the police when this clearly is your fault?

Take some accountability for your actions for once

You can show them your current insurance coverage on your phone.

Aren’t all insurance cards on phones these days? If the card is expired, probably means your insurance is expired. And car shouldn’t be on the road.

Depends on where you live I suppose.
I got pulled over the other night in my wife's car, because it had a headlight out on dim. I hadn't even noticed that.
Also found out that she keeps the insurance card in her purse
Cop ran the tag and found out that the insurance was fine.
He told me to replace the light and I went on my way.

That’s fricking stupid. The DMV gets updates every month from insurance companies on cancellations. If he had an MDT he could get the return just by running your plate. I could have card that shows valid but not paid my policy for months.

BTW your insurance company probably has an app that has an electronic proof of your policy.

Three words: Law and Order.
Do better. Lesson learned.

Did you ask if you could download your insurance app?

towing your car is a bit much for an expired insurance card.

I would have them on the news that evening.

I see the inverse of this happen fairly regularly. Buy a policy valid for six months. Get a card showing that. Pay in monthly installments and stop paying after the first month.

You’ve got a card showing coverage but it’s actually cancelled because you didn’t pay the premium.

I’d love to see law enforcement go to a more real-time model of being able to access a database.

Last time I got pulled over, he didn't even want my insurance card because he said he could already see it. You should also be able to pull it up on your phone and show them.

Expired card and you have current insurance?

Or expired card and your insurance has expired?

These are two very different things

Anyone complaining I've always shown my phone. Never used paper copies.

Also I treat cops like a necessary evil. They aren't your friend so don't act like they want to help you.

What kind of fly by night, lowest bidder insurance policy do you have where you can’t pull it up in the app or online? I wouldn’t want to turn my phone over to anyone, but if the option was towed car or show him my screen I’ll take my chances w the unlocked phone over the hassle and costs of a towed car.

Also, what kind of a-hole were you that the cop went straight to I’ll have your car towed?

It's 2024 every insurance agency has an app or a website. Why didn't you get an image of your virtual card for the officer?

It’s discretionary whether they tow or not. I got one in about 3 minutes on my phone when I didn’t have the new one with me one day. Did it without the app on my phone too. It’s a pain to keep up with but not as bad as an Inspection Sticker!

Why do so many dolts use "ran" and "run" incorrectly?
