Do people even get turned down from LSU?
As an LSU alum, this was my question as well. I thought it was pretty straightforward. I thought you either have the grades or you don’t. It’s not like a true subjective admissions process that you would see at elite schools.
Maybe it’s changed in the last few years?

she is borderline and they do t want to tell her no.
Yep, so she’s in an exception pool waiting to be considered. If it’s still the same as it was when I worked there, the state BoR gives LSU a percentage of last years class - I believe 4% - as an exception number. So if last years class was 7,000, they’ll be allowed to admit 280 students not meeting criteria. My biggest problem with how we did exceptions - this was 10-12 years ago - was that they were made using race as part of the consideration which pissed me off to no end. I’m talking self-described conservatives who hated affirmative action but were creaming in their panties over using race as one of the factors. These same people were thrilled to vote for JBE the first time (shocker).
My advice is for you to ALWAYS maintain contact with them in a respectful manner. Stay on the radar. Highlight actual reasons why your daughter falls short without using feelings and reasons like “oh she was just young and immature”. No, it should be “she lost a parent in 10th grade which impacted her grades” or “she was bullied in 11th grade because she was friends with a gay student so her grades suffered”. It helps if her school can provide a written statement of whatever the reason may be. Hate to say it but if the reason really was simply that she was young and immature, someone else is getting her exception spot.

Why the downvotes. Truth was spoken once again. Who here really thinks LSU cares one bit attracting incoming white students?

I did when I recruited. I recruited extremely affluent white kids from neighborhoods that celebrities lived in though, which helped because out of state tuition wasn’t and isn’t cheap . I was given freedom in where I recruited so I hit up the richest areas of my territories and it worked. I always had a very solid class, which included multiple recipients of the most prestigious scholarship each year.
90% of them were white, which is probably why my boss at the time hated me .

Be a squeaky wheel. Set your alarm to call every morning. I hadn't heard back when my son applied either. I called his admissions advisor every morning and left a message. Finally got a call back and she said it was because she "couldn't open" (horseshite) the admissions attachments. I made her stay on the phone with me while I emailed her new ones and had her open every single one while I was on the phone. (why didn't they notify me the first time if documents were corrupt or unreadable???)
He got his acceptance an hour later.
I think they, like any large administration filled with some incompetents, can't tell their assholes from a hole in the ground.
Background: We are out of state, full pay tuition, white, 4.0 student from private Catholic university with honors in Environmental Sciences and Rugby

Borderline gpa due to Covid and stupidly doing homeschool at home for two years. Bad decision on our part. Great since she has been in brick and mortar at a really good school. SAT good.
Hammond, Hattiesburg, Ruston, and Monroe are all great cities that you should become familiar with.

They are probably letting in and notifying all the applicants that auto meet the requirements then will see where the class is once those are all admitted before making decisions on people that are borderline.
Not to be rude, but after seeing LSU go turn into an "admit everyone with a pulse so we can graduate the biggest and most diverse class in history school" I'm kinda glad to hear you're going through this...means the tide is turning back which there have been indications of.

It's a good school academically and it's much closer to home, but damn...A&M. I failed as a parent and my dad is mad at me, not her.
As parents, we always strive for our children to do better than us. You succeeded. Congrats.

This was my coworkers experience with her daughter 7-8 years ago. She is out of state and black and they were so slow with everything. She met every requirement and more and eventually even got some money. My coworker had been through college admissions with her 2 sons before at other schools and just felt like LSU admissions were not as attentive as the other schools. The daughter eventually left and went to U of H. She grew up in the suburbs in Cy Fair and LSU and the blacks there were just too hood for her. She truly didn't like the culture and didn't always feel safe.

My #2 applied in Nov of 22 (fall of his senior year) - he didn’t hear from LSU until April of 2023
My #1 had applied in the spring of her senior year and heard back about two weeks later
It should be another week or two

Yep this is what we did. We have a college counselor that we work with. We have explained her being homeschooled for two years. Also the fact she is a full year younger then her classmates (not maturity wise)

FWIW my nephew applied in Oct and just found out about 2.5 weeks ago he was accepted.
I’m pretty sure I applied in sept or Oct and was accepted by November

Wait are you paying a third party counselor for the end result of your kid going to LSU?

It is just kind of annoying as dad when your whole life they were growing up watching sports with you and you talked about going to games etc. LSU has always been a big part of our relationship.
Send them a nice email and just say look, I suffered through the Hallman years, Dinardo years were a nice upswing...then she was able to really see the winning years....now the good times are back again....the person reading this....WTF, were you even here when the Trent Johnson hire looked great on paper, and then the guy got here and didn't even want to fill out a bench. Let us know when we can expect the Acceptance letter, hopefully before we take 2 out of 3 in a SEC Series. You'll get my out of state money. Geaux Tigers!

Family member free and yes we needed a third party because her mom sucks but we needed her to feel involved in the situation. My kid lives with me now. They had the first semester of their freshman year count to their gpa with all f’s. This was because my dumb arse ex did not “officially” take them out of the duval county public school system. Their freshman year was Covid and all were placed in it who had been at a duval 8th grade. The school was in my exes district. She moved her into Florida virtual instead. It was not ideal what was happening during this period of time.
I was living in Georgia for a few years and moved back because the situation needed it.
