With TOPS her tuition was around $2,000 per year. Apartment and food bumped it up to a little over $15k. She's debt free.

Was worth every penny.

My son was an LSU fan growing up, wife snd I are grads, but the shine has faded. I’m glad he’ll go somewhere else. Oxford is a bit of a pain, but really no SEC town is ideal. Mine still has his senior year so we’ll see.

Borderline gpa due to Covid and stupidly doing homeschool at home for two years. Bad decision on our part. Great since she has been in brick and mortar at a really good school. SAT good.

Hammond, Hattiesburg, Ruston, and Monroe are all great cities that you should become familiar with.

Don't forget Laffy. I believe every other state school in LA is offering in state tuition for LA natives. I know ULL does.

The money offered my kid from the other 3 in state schools in FCS.

Tech $38,000
ULM $57,000
ULL $67,000 plus a job at the university

These are merit based on top of TOPS. Tech gave another 12K to dorms for cheer. LSU was $18K on top of TOPS with 2 offers. They wouldn’t touch fees/room/board.

If you have below a 3.0 highschool gpa and aren’t a football recruit then yes you would get rejected by lsu.

If you have below a 3.0 GPA in high school you probably shouldn't be attending college anywhere

Your daughter is worried that she may not have gotten accepted to LSU?

The amount of times "We" is used suggests maybe someone else is more disappointed.

The importance is that your job is to support her going forward and not add to the disappointment of rejection.

I get it but wasnt referring to that.......every other state school in LA, with the exception of LSU, offers "in state" if you have an LA birth certificate. LSU did that up to 2012 or 13 in addition to alumni whether native or not.

is there any preference, financial or otherwise, currently shown to legacies?

You know, you can let him know that there are other schools out there than "SEC schools."

College choice is negligible for probably 97% of people. Unless you want to work for a specific company, or need a highly specialized degree, it doesn’t matter all that much.

There's more to college choice than just academic or degree choice. I live in Houston and UT and A&M have both become exceedingly difficult to get into. My son wanted the full college experience (which I had and felt was his right to do) and LSU is only a four hour drive. I knew he could visit whenever he wanted and we'd have great family trips for games, etc.. Some of the other schools he was accepted to were two plane rides or a plane ride + 2 hour car ride to get to. Not to mention the fact that the LSU alumni are strong in Houston and hopefully will help him when it comes time to apply for jobs.

There is a (I think $500 to $1,000 per year based on ACT scores) scholarship for legacies. It’s good for 4 years if requirements are met each year. That’s all I know of.
