LA HB 461 - (Government proposal to hide records from public)
Posted on 4/5/24 at 9:08 am
Posted on 4/5/24 at 9:08 am
The Louisiana House has a proposed bill, HB 461 (Jackson) that passed the first committee yesterday. This bill effectively allows government to hide all records related to local/parish economic projects. This will be a license for Louisiana government to become even more corrupt. Imagine the handouts for all the favored relations of the politicians.
HB 461
The rep (Jackson) who sponsored the bill is an absolute crook who has a shady history to say the least. Call your reps and senators and bug them to get this garbage legislation thrown out.

Yeah that's BS. Maybe change your thread title so people see what this is about. No way this bill should pass.

Why is our legislature hell bent this session on restricting public record laws?
Heather Cloud filed another bill that would restrict public record laws.

It wouldn't restrict them...it would obliterate them.
I like Sen. Cloud, but I don't think this was her idea.

Probably not. Landry has these little minions filing these bills on his behalf.
What is he trying to hide?
He charged taxpayers for 3 basketballs & an air pump for the governor’s mansion. Pass this law and god knows what taxpayers would be paying for.

Sadly, most bills aren't individual legislators' ideas. It is pushed in front of them by someone with money and/or influence.

I do as well.

I hope not. So then whose idea was it, and who wrote the bill for her to carry it? And why is she agreeing to carry it?
It would be nice if a local/state journalist would do some actual digging and reporting on this for the taxpayers and voters. Maybe Jeremy Alford or Lee Zurich will? They're about the only journalists worth a shite left in Louisiana.

It’s BS to avoid transparency. Funny you jumping on board, though. The dems have secret courts and spy on political opponents. Can you link us to your criticism of that? TIA.

There are fact checkers on Twitter that do a pretty good job at some of these things. They just don’t have the name or following to gain any traction.
Mike Fesi filed SB403 which allows for the Governor to appoint the chairs of the BOS for colleges. He came straight out and said an outside group brought it to him but he couldn’t remember who. But no worries, he was gonna go back and read the bill…this was AFTER the bill was already filed.
fricking clown world.

Jesus....I didn't know that part of it. Why is this bill even needed? Most Board of Supervisors or any type of governing board selects their own chair. The Governor already chooses the board members so I don't understand this need at all.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Speed that process up since the boards have staggered terms?

Tell me how Jeff Landry is different than JBE please. His true self has been showing this past week.

Jeff needs positions for his slimy cronies. After all, their solo practice law offices no longer have work now that he’s not funneling AG outside counsel to them.

I liked her when she first appeared, but she's starting to get a little MTG-ish for me.

Oh that's easy to do.
Landry REALLY hates the trannies. JBE only somewhat dislikes the gays.
JBE has actually tried cases as an attorney, Landry has not.
Landry likes throwing bombs for national attention, JBE generally avoided the national spotlight.
Landry belongs to the religion of MAGA, JBE belongs to the religion of Covid.
