64k is more than enough to quit your job for 6 months to a year and figure something else out
If you're poor yes

One of my uncle's mother in law received a settlement for over $400K back in the 90s. She lived in an old run down trailer and drove a crappy car. She quit her job, bought three of her kids new homes and cars(my uncle and his wife didn't want her money) and ended up in that same run down trailer and car. In less than a year, all that money was gone.

I have definitely been in a situation where I’d quit my job for that amount.

Posted says quit not retire for life. It’s interesting how ppl can see the exact same thing and go to several different extremes of how they interrupt the same info.

She might be 100% level headed and just looking for another job. Maybe this buys her several months to a year to find another job. Not everyone is in a life long career type of job at any given moment
Might be? Sure. But that's not the probability.
It's like if I see a man in his 40s riding a shitty old bicycle and wearing dirty, wrinkled clothing on the side of a major thoroughfare during traffic, I'm going to assume he's a bum. Because that's what the probabilities are. But there's always that one person to point out the unlikely outlier that this "might be" just a frugal person getting his exercise in.
Reshawn, in all probabilities, will profligate through that money quicker than she anticipated.

some of us just choose to not have such disdain for people we've never even met. the fact is the world would be a lot better place if less people expected the worst of everyone they meet and acted accordingly

I'd consider it. That's enough to wipe out all my debt minus the house.

She did what half of this working country wants to do. Quit a shite job to look for a better one while not having to worry about bills.

True. I would need at least 3 million to simply quit.

I've always said it would take $10m after taxes for me to quit.

Imagine thinking $64,000 is a life changing amount of money.
Posted on 3/31/24 at 5:09 pm to SidewalkTiger
$40K spent on a "certified pre-owned Lexus", $40K spent as downpayment on a pre-owned double wide and the remaining $10K on drugs, booze and tats.

lol at the people defending this. Poor people stay poor as shite for a reason.
A smart person for only 64k stays in their job but starts actively looking for the next one, one they like better. They use that money to invest safely or pay off high interest debt. And as a cushion.
Not to quit your job and blow it in 3 months and end up right back where you were. Maybe worse.

It's easier to look for a job when you aren't working 50+ hours a week.
we don't even know what job she quit
