Well you must have some axe to grind with LSU because you keep changing your arguments.

I don't live in Baton Rouge so I don't much care about the collateral benefits for BR as a whole. But if offering such collateral benefits is what we have to do to get it built, then let's fcking go.
LSU is not on an island. Anything that benefits BR also benefits LSU.
So this is truly a win-win.

So what? Tiger Stadium and most of the buildings on campus are closer to a hundred years old.
do you factor in the hundreds of millions of dollars spent on Tiger Stadium t get it to the usefulness it has today?

I have no axe to grind with LSU. But to put a use tax on a publicly funded entity doesn't sit well with me. My true argument is the people of Louisiana are over taxed.

The only "public funds" going toward this project are the potential use tax.
Special taxing districts happen all the time to promote development. River Ranch in Lafayette, Bass Pro Shops in Denham Springs, Americana in Zachary.
I just don't understand how someone can be upset about a tax only applied in a new development, which without said tax the development wouldn't even exist. Either way, you don't have to frequent said development if you don't want to pay for it.

Concerts are not going to this new LSU arena over New Orleans, now that New Orleans has an arena.
Bigger touring acts play Houston and New Orleans, they can also play midweek stops at a suitable location between Houston and New Orleans.
In the 60s Lafayette (Blackham Coliseum) and Baton Rouge (Independence Hall) split those concerts
In the 1970s, Baton Rouge took the lead in securing bigger shows with the new Assembly Center facility
In the 1980s and then the 1990s Lafayette opened the Cajun Dome and took the lead for the bigger shows
Now it seems like big most rock acts skip Lafayette and Baton Rouge completely so the concerts Lafayette hosts are primarily Country acts. Baton Rouge doesnt seem to host many concerts at all any more. Except for the acts playing the theatre at L'Auberge Casino

The only public funding that would be used on this is the use tax. Are you upset because other stakeholders like the people of Baker and Southern to be brought in on this decision Chauna?

You could not be more wrong. New Orleans has the Superdome and Smoothie King center with two professional sports teams and yet NOLA has experienced a decrease in population! You're being delusional about this project having a positive impact on Baton Rouge.
wrong
Metro New Orleans population has been growing steadily since the Katrina catastrophe

Yes, but we don’t need another storm water debacle and find out the “real plan”.
The public was told no public funds would be involved. Now someone is saying that might not be quite true.
I am for the new arena, but when I see the same types involved that ran the IBM scam, that worked to stop SG, and my antenna goes up.
Let’s get our arena, and let’s make sure there are no hidden costs and LSU gets the best deal possible not some connected developers.

Data posted 6 days ago shows you are wrong.
The New Orleans-Metairie Metropolitan Area, which encompasses seven parishes near the city, saw the steepest declines of any large metro nationwide from 2020 to 2023. The metro region lost 45,000 residents during those three years, a 4.3% drop primarily due to residents leaving Orleans and Jefferson parishes.6 days ago
LINK .
A new arena will not drive population growth as some have stated. I surely do not support the current mayor of Baton Rouge and I have gone toe to toe with Chauna many times. To be compared to that idiot is comical.
As stated in the OP post. "New hospitality taxes or property taxes can also be imposed in the districts."
Yall want to "possibly" tax residents via property tax increases in the district for a new arena. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

Yes those are possibilities, but there's been nothing stated publicly that they will even use taxes at all. In fact, they have stated no impact on tax payers.

Mickey, this is exactly why we need transparency and the project leaders need one spokes person.
Let’s make sure all the information that is not privileged be out in the public, and let’s not have Landry saying one thing, and LSU say something else.
Already opponents are sniping at the project and thus isn’t good for attracting an investor.

Shocked that this will cost a ton of money, make a huge profit for a private developer, have a stupid long "lease" attached to LSU, and cost taxpayers money. Never could have seen that this was just another BS project rife for corruption! Never!

This is a sorely needed capital project for LSU and economic development project for the Baton Rouge region. You're basically getting a free arena. Who cares if a developer will own it. Build it now.

As we’ve seen in this very thread, LSU’s enemies will snipe no matter what.

While LSU officials have been promising for weeks that no taxpayer money would be required for a proposed new arena on campus for concerts and LSU sports

they allow for new sales taxes of up to 2% within the district. New hospitality taxes or property taxes can also be imposed in the districts.
Framing this as a lie and calling a theoretical 2% sales tax increase at businesses in a small area "taxpayer money" is pretty disingenuous. They know people are going to assume that means the government is paying for the arena, which at this point is not the case.

God forbid you approve a new tax for the greater good of the community to bring a modern arena and get big acts thus bringing money into the area.

EBR has passed quite a few taxes for the good of the parish.
