If they are taxing about the special taxing district then only people who spend money on that district pay the additional up to 2% tax. It is not a widespread tax.

A small use tax, which is basically what this is, is more than fair to get a modern arena and the benefits that come with it, of which there are many.

If they’re going to tax the whole state you would have a better point, but you cannot get good jobs and the people qualified for those jobs to come here without top tier entertainment options. And you can’t get those type entertainment options without this kind of an arena.

You could not be more wrong. New Orleans has the Superdome and Smoothie King center with two professional sports teams and yet NOLA has experienced a decrease in population! You're being delusional about this project having a positive impact on Baton Rouge.

Louisiana is in trouble and a new arena in Baton Rouge shouldn't even be up for discussion.

Remember, there is no such thing as a free lunch. LSU and the public may be sold on the idea that the arena will be free but we all know too well it won't be.

Of course it’s not the only thing, but it’s an important piece and any attempt to meaningfully address Baton Rouge’s issues will require a new arena.

To deny that is to deny reality, which you’ve shown a good job of doing in this thread.

You must not visit the Pels board often. They are constantly talking about how it's the worst arena in the NBA and a new one needs to be built.

Concerts are not going to this new LSU arena over New Orleans, now that New Orleans has an arena.

That was because the PMAC >>> Lakefront Arena.

You say we need this to attract new residents. I show you data that proves it doesn't work in our largest city, yet I'm not dealing with reality?

Implode the River Center and build something new there if this is truly needed.

You've said this multiple times. LA is, at worst, middle of the pack when it comes to state taxes. The problem is we don't get jack in return from our taxes, because of

political corruption.

Sounds like the only people would be taxed are the ones going to the arena. So basically tickets and popcorn cost a bit more.

You’re being intentionally obtuse.

It’s PART of what you need

Ah so it’s really just an anti-LSU thing. Got it.

Imagine how bad the population loss would be in NOLA if we didn't have entertainment and tourism options.

Does the state need to be better at a lot of things? Yes. Does BR need to be better at a lot of things? Also yes.

If we are talking about cutting government services to pay for this, count me out.

The reality is, people give money to the football program but not the math department. People will support this, especially if they only have to pay for it if they use it.

So you'd prefer a new arena be 100% paid for by our taxes AND placed in a less desirable location?

And for just a small use tax you're okay with that in hope that we actually get something back said tax.

EBR has a whooping 10.45% sales tax then add on another 2% to get to step foot into this arena.

DS, stop engaging this troll.

Let's remember this is an LSU board. I support this arena deal because it greatly benefits LSU. I don't live in Baton Rouge so I don't much care about the collateral benefits for BR as a whole. But if offering such collateral benefits is what we have to do to get it built, then let's fcking go.

Not at all. How much traffic crosses the MRB in Baton Rouge that would then see this new arena? Where would visitors stay to see a concert at your new stadium? Umm, downtown? Why couldn't LSU use this location for it sports?

Would the proposed location be visible from the bridge?
