Well the pmac is 50 yrs old

So what? Tiger Stadium and most of the buildings on campus are closer to a hundred years old.

Buildings are built cheaper and cheaper. TS is 100 and still useable. PMAC is 50 and apparently unusable. I don’t have any faith that anything built today is going to last much past 30 years - if that. Patrick Taylor being a good example of terrible design and construction.

$400 million for basically a temporary venue for entertainment seems ridiculous to me.

This attorney and Enquist built Americana in Zachary with a similar tax and nothing of value has been added to Zachary from this tax. I'd be very leery of this setup

This setup has been used successfully all over the country. It's even been used successfully in Louisiana, just go check out Fremaux Town Center in Slidell.

If Americana sucks, I'd look to the developer.

“From what it seems like, the economic district has been made”

Fwiw.. the vape shop on state is in it and could be taxed.. the vape shop on chimes is not in it and will not be taxed.. a LOT of other examples on the district map not being vetted properly.. again poor execution and rush job.. I do not think they meant to make the screw ups.. but they rushed things..

What 2% added to sales tax? Like 2 cents each dollar?

They are not talking about if you to rouses on airline you get extra 2% tax. Instead what they mean is if you buy a beer in the new arena you get the 2%. Similar to hotel tax. I accept this. Tax those using it.

Side thought. A couple years ago Nola had a vote up to increase taxes on hotels, conferences etc. that’s all people read and voted it down. However if you read the whole bill what they were trying to do is decrease local residents taxes and pass the buck to tourist. AND the people of New Orleans essentially voted to just keep paying the taxes themselves. Ha. So $&@:;($ stupid

Where did you see this? Everything I read said the developer would own the building and make money on all the non-LSU events. I don't recall seeing anything about ownership of the arena transferring to LSU.

It's literally in every article I've read about the project

For those worrying that the building will have fallen to shite before 30 years is up, that's not realistic. The Smoothie King Center is 25 this year and has held up nicely (other than being ugly). If the thing is built right, and with cutting edge technology, it will last longer than the shitty PMAC.

It is possible that we can build a nice, new arena, and it be done via a process that doesn't stink to high heaven and have tons of foolishness involved.

We can do this in a fair, open process.

We absolutely cannot

According to the LLA report, football brought in $54 million, and men's basketball brought in $1.3 million after expenses for the fiscal year that ended June 30, 2023.Jan 30, 2024

No new taxes!

I attended gymnastics and WBB this season and the PMAC is nice. What would a new arena bring to LSU other than being new? Hopefully more space in between rows. I could see suites being sold but then that could fund the constructions.

And concerts shouldn't be considered. It is been shown that major acts go to NOLA then Lafayette.

Because we don’t have an arena!

Baton Rouge used to be a premier destination for touring acts. Everyone from Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones to Van Halen and Metallica played Baton Rouge.

You’re being short sighted at best, flat out dumb at worst.

An old decrepit arena than cannot handle the needs of modern touring acts.

They can barely handle single A hockey

What upgrades does the PMAC need? You only laughed which means you have no argument. Why should tax payers fund any portion of this?

Louisiana has a population decline and you fools want to tax the remaining citizens more. Who is being short sighted now?

My God. We have the biggest bunch of whining people that want to b#tch about everything!

We have an outdated 50 year old arena that gets no concerts or events.

LSU will get a new 400 millions dollar arena state of the art arena given to them free of charge. Baton Rouge will get concerts that will brings money into the economy.

AND YET WILL STILL HAVE PEOPLE B#TCH! GIMME A BREAK!

It does not have the infrastructure to support the audio and visual needs of touring acts. Except maybe WWE but wrestling doesn’t bring their A tier events to Baton Rouge the way they used to for this exact reason.

Louisiana stays shitty and poor because people like you shout down any attempt to modernize it.

The Cajundome got a major renovation less than 10 years ago.

It’s not an A tier facility or anything but yes compared to either the PMAC or the River Center it may as well be Madison Square Garden

Ability to support video boards and allow for modern equipment to be plugged into the facility easily and efficiently. Also a backstage area that’s been updated since 1973.

Or maybe people flee the state due to the high taxation and political corruption. But, please let's tax us more so we can get a new arena. All those high rollers that fly into BTR can look at the weeds along the interstate and busted arse harding blvd. Not to the mention the poors that fly commercial and get to be greeted by parish prison.
