Is it still owned by the same family of the 2000s?
Dixie started in 1966 (58 yrs ago) by Joe Dean Sr. Original location was Baton Rouge. Moved to Summit MS in 1974 and currently run by JD Jr. and his son Scott Dean.

I’m not sure who is running the camp now but I went to Lee High School with Joe Dean’s daughter back in the mid 70’s. We hung out a lot because she was best friends with my girlfriend at the time. I know that she worked the cam every summer. Her boyfriend was also one of my good friends. I’m not sure if his daughter still has anything to do with the camp but if she does it would not surprise me with the name change. Two of her best friends are raging liberals who thought Obama was the greatest president ever

Man, reading this reminded me of the Bob Morgan basketball camps in the Baton Rouge area when I was younger. Wonder what ever happened to those.
Also, RIP Bob Morgan, a great man.

Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up and he knows he must run faster than the fastest lion or he will be eaten. Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up and he knows he must run faster than the slowest gazelle or he will starve. How do you know if you are running fast enough? SWEAT! I loved me some Dixie basketball camp and country club!

The Gazelle is over thinking it. He just needs to be faster then the slowest gazelle also.

Anyone go to Lakeside Oaks basketball camp back in the day? Brad Brian’s place and run by Joe Dean. Great memories there. Joe Dean with the wake up call for breakfast “Rise and shine, Lakeside Oaks Basketball Camp and Country Club, get it while it’s hot!”

Sweat, sweat, we love sweat sir!
3 on 3, also known as “blood and guts” on the carpeted gym in McComb, MS with no AC in dead summer was the way to be.
I still remember being “skins” and sweating so much I was having to wipe my face with my shorts cause no shirt on. Was difficult.

I’ll take my Johnny Bright basketball camps with Coach Ray, Alan Frye, and the other host of characters that helped out…thank you!

Great memories of my one time there. Went with my high school team along with alot of other high schools who sent their teams to this particular camp.
Fun fact, the best player there there the year I went, and there was no debate, you can ask anyone there - Tommy Hodson.
