Disagree. What's missing is competent multi-level on ball creation and distribution, paired with competent off ball shooting. This isn't the 1970s. We don't need someone who is a post scorer to be successful. Baker liked to work out of the post but his lack of shooting and the space he ate on the court caused numerous, numerous problems that I could fully explain but I don't feel like it rn. His style of play was the main reason why this team struggled on both ends of the court. It did not mesh at all with the rest of our players and it caused chemistry issues with him and other players (particularly Reed). Hate to dog on the guy, but he was the main problem (coaching aside).
More than anything we need a big man that can rebound, defend, and act as a genuine roll threat off of PnR actions. A huge reason our ball screen offense was shite was because Dean and Baker weren't genuine roll threats.

Turn it completely around next season or gtfo.
It’s not even a complete turnaround … take care of the ball and hold on to rebounds when you get your hands on them and this team wins a minimum of 6 more games this year.

Id like to see us make a jump next year similar to what Florida did this season. But we have GOT to get to portalling. Have to replace half the rotation this off-season.

Great write up! He is the worst coach in the sec and it’s not close. I know where they started from but cheating is legal now let’s get someone who knows how to recruit and develop elite players. The center on this years team couldn’t start at uno

McMahon will have to get better players through the portal. If he doesn't, we will be a bad to mediocre SEC team.
I do think he got the most out of the talent he had this year, but didn't in his first year.
He will need to improve both as a coach and recruiter to be successful. I hope it happens, but I am not holding my breath.

Today’s college coaching is very fluid except at top tier universities that have the ability to recruit with nil money and who are able to exploit the university’s brand and articulate to players, administration supporters and alumni the direction and method of a winning program. The business of sports today doesn’t afford additional time but is for programs like LSU about timing and availability of hiring with very little exception.

I agree with this to a degree. I still had some issues with who he played, when and how much. But there was some individual and team development and improvement this year where there was regression last year.

This team was a turnover machine yesterday and North Texas made us look slow & silly. No good reason to be out hustled and out coached, but we were.
Don’t see Mac surviving here if it’s more of the same next season. Hopefully our 2 signees won’t need to redshirt >sarcasm< , and we do great in the portal.
Like most here, I’d love to see men’s basketball become relevant again.

We have no change up on offense or defense, no pressure D, no zone
Thanks for confirming that you watched very little actual basketball this year and just came here to complain about the team losing.
We did all of these things, literally in the game last night.

We're missing a PG and secondary ball handler. What you saw is what happens when you have no one quick enough to guard the point of opposing teams. It collapses the entire defense and on offense you don't have someone who can drive and kick. In this case, we don't really have enough shooting either.

Desperation decisions are different from having it in the game plan.

That’s why I gave an example of a current player for another conference team. No it’s not 1970, but this killed us in a lot of games — look at MSU.

We mostly agree, I just think he can shoot the J really well for a big guy. And I think Cook was a more consequential misfit personally.

That said let’s have an honest conversation about the basketball program. MM is not an SEC caliber coach and that begins with recruiting.

Personality wise sure. But how can you run a ball screen offense with a center that... doesn't set good ball screens?? And has no ability to score off the roll? You can't.

Hubbard fricked us from 3 and their defense is far too physical for the lack of shooting we had this year. Even against NTU we kept trying to force it in the paint when they would send 4 defenders. But when your lineup has guys like Hannibal, Fountain, Reed who can't shoot you're kinda fricked either way.

Mcman is horrible.
But he actually recruits well.
Our players have talent - we just have a shite coach.

I do really hate to keep dogging him too maniac, but if he's not scoring and I mean like 20 points or more, his deficiencies everywhere else really and I mean really hurt the team in multiple ways...and the games where he scores that much are few and far between. And being that he typically plays about 25 minutes a game this year....most games it's a net negative.

When you have to give quality minutes to role players like Baker, Dean, Fountain, Wilkinson & Hannibal, it means you haven’t recruited well. Not sure if Mac is capable of fixing that as an SEC coach.

Will Wade. Many look admirably in his tenure, and for good reason, but he’s gone and he isn’t coming back.
WW wants to come back, and conversations have been had behind the scenes to possibly facilitate this. MM sucks and is an embarrassment to LSU. If WW get McNeese to the Sweet 16, he will likely be coaching at LSU again next season. You heard it here 1st...
