If you didn't have your wife (or don't have one) would you be happy being a loner?

I often wonder about men's capacity to be a lonely hermit if the situation were to arise. I could see myself ending up alone in the woods til the end if it went that way.

I see women bitching about men in their 40's "not wanting anything serious" but I truly get it. I feel like if you made it that long without choosing to settle down, it's possible you might want to go through the second half of life in the exact same manner.

I have a wife and family. I would not be happy as a loner.

as long as I had my dogs, I'd be good.

I would not get remarried.

Why do you think you need a wife to be happy?

30 years old and currently alone

I'm absolutely miserable, San Diego

Casual sex does nothing for what I'm looking for.

I like access to easy sex too much to ever be happy alone. Plus, my wife is a pretty hip gal.

I love being a loner but I love my wife and kids more. If I had never gotten married I believe by this age (late 30’s), I’d just live alone and be perfectly happy with grilling, cooking, and being by myself.

I told my wife if she dies and leaves me, I'm going to go buy land and adopt every senior animal that is unadoptable in my area and give it a good life for the rest if it's time or mine, whichever ends first.

In general, I prefer being alone. My wife knows I need my alone time each day and respects my need. I get along with people fine, but conversing exhausts me. The fun of being introverted!

I would, for a short time, but eventually I’d get bored and start carousing.

Married with kids. I have so many hobbies and projects, I long for quiet time to myself. That said, I don't think I could do that long term. Balance is needed

If I didn’t have my wife I’d never get married again

Would need a maid and a hooker then I’d be fine

Absolutely. I’ve always preferred my own space and my own company. The wife and I get along well, I enjoy being married to her, but I could just as easily live a solitary existence.

I made a HUGE mistake when I become over-dependent on my independence (safe selfishness) post-divorce

My refusal or inability to deal with the loss of a child then 9 months later in divorce losing my wife and stepdaughter, who I will have more than thrilled with as my only kid, loved her with all my being.

instead, I gave into an addictive-like behavior of shallow sexual relationships,It was the dawn of internet dating and yall have seen my pics,

There were thousands of divorced women in their early 30s and as I aged so did 40'S 50's they and the loneliness become more or more typical and I was right there with them

date a few weeks, months even years the pseudo-relationship fooled us esp me

Then the stroke ended my ability to live so alone just wasn't possible. What I thought I was, my relationships with my environment/work/colleagues.
I proved to be worthless to others when I could no longer play my part in their lives

I'LL DIE ALONE but as my truer self,, I'll live as long as it takes me to figure that out
we all have a purpose
