Louisiana is in some fine company.

Why West Virginia?
The other places seem to all have an obvious set of reasons.

Such a shithole with no future

Could be a good thing if the right people are leaving. Sadly, that’s not the case with Louisiana.

Same as Louisiana. It’s a shithole

We are losing primarily because of hurricanes. Not saying we don’t have problems but that combined with the other contributions is why we are losing more than other southern states.
Hopefully the new governor has a plan to solve the crime problems in BR, NOLA and Shreveport. We have a cultural gold mine in NOLA and everyone is scared to go there.

It's the poorest state in the Union
ETA: Why the downvotes? WV and Mississippi are consistently the two poorest states in the country on every list you look at.

And yet Florida and Texas are gaining the most.

We've gutted the coal industry there.

All the Yankees are coming to South Carolina and ruining the state.

Honestly wouldn’t mind living in West Virginia. I bet there are beautiful areas of the state and I can afford to live like a king in a house without wheels.

Louisiana's the only southeastern state losing people. Not a good look.

Our previous governor had something in common with all of the other states with a losing population.

Thanks JBE.

The “culture” is the problem.

Other Southern states have hurricanes too.
People are leaving because Louisiana has terrible public schools, corrupt politicians, areas with opportunity for work are overrun with crime and now due to the eroding coast its more expensive to live than Mississippi and Alabama.
Higher COL for an equal or worse place to live than surrounding states

West Virginia is gorgeous. I've been through there more times than I can count.
I recommend the New River Gorge. The longest arch suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere and you can go down to the bottom and see just how high up that bridge is over the river. It's about 1,000 ft. Beautiful view.
