The "Do you have a half sibling" thread got me to thinking about Doppelgangers. I have one that I have never met. Growing up, people told me they saw a guy that looked like me, but I just brushed it off.

But I really started believing after the following incident. One day I was out in my hometown (I was early 20's). A woman walked up to me and the conversation went roughly as follows:

Woman: Hey, John, did you hear about Sally?
Me: Who dat?
Woman: Sally? You know, one of your best friends?
Me: Dunno anyone by that name.
Woman: (laughing) What is wrong with you today?
Me: I have no idea what you're talking about and I don't know you either.
Woman: So you're not John?
Me: No, I have no idea who John is. My name is AUstar.
Woman: (Begins walking around me slowly, really studying my face). You're not John?
Me: NO, I am not.
Woman: You could be his twin. You even talk like him. It is so creepy. You are identical.
Me: Yeah, I have heard I have a twin around here.
Woman: Yes, you absolutely do. I am going to tell John about this.
Me: I am sure he already knows. He has probably heard about me just as I have him.

Even now I am convinced she didn't believe me and thought I was John just playing a joke on her (though if she asked John about this incident, she probably learned the truth).

I was seated at a bar in Grand Cayman and a woman came up behind me and hugged me and was crying looking into my face.

Turned out I had a doppelgänger who was a prominent Liberal politician in Canada who had recently died from cancer.

The woman who was hugging me was an OT zero pernt zero zero, an irl 0.05.

So zero fricks (by me) were given.

I do. He and his gf started hanging out with my circle of friends back in 2011 or so, and our friends kept telling both of us how much we looked alike before we met. He walked through the door of my buddy's house while I was in the kitchen and it was like I was looking at a clone of myself with a different shaped beard than mine. Even act similarly. We're still friends.

Eta: I worked in landscaping when I was 20, and one day on a job at a customer's house I noticed a lady next door standing at her door with her kids and all of them kept looking at me like I was someone they knew. The lady walked up to me, struck up a conversation and told me I looked exactly like her husband that'd passed away several years ago. I could tell by the seriousness in her tone it was true. We talked for a bit and I gave her a hug. I was pretty much floored the rest of the day.

I've had multiple people tell me they know someone who looks exactly like me, but I've never seen any of them

Not really, but when my wife and I were engaged, there was a woman in Nebraska with the same name (first and last) as my wife getting married in the same timeframe.

My wife's maiden name is of Czech origin and not very common. We do know that her g-g-grandparents settled in Minnesota and Iowa, so it could have been a distant cousin. Still very odd.

I was at a wedding and some SLU baw came up to me and started asking what classes I was taking that semester and other school related questions. I was already out of school for years, didn’t go to SLU, and had no clue who this guy was. He said I looked exactly like this other dude he knew. Later I saw the other guy - he had longer hair but was for sure my Doppelgänger.

No crazy stories but have been told many times I look familiar by people i've never met. So I definitely think I've got one out there.

My best friend passed away in his early twenties. It was a tough time for all involved following his death, particularly his mom. It was maybe three weeks or a month at most that I was in a bar/restaurant eating when I looked at the table to the right of me. A guy was sitting with his back to me, and from that angle looked exactly like my friend....same build, haircut, same style of dress....everything. I didn't say a word to the people I was with, got up and walked towards the restroom. I turned and looked back over my shoulder, and that was him. I mean, everything about him looked like my friend. I took a leak and came back to the table. I couldn't stop looking at the guy. It was like I was seeing a ghost.

We hung around a while and so did the group he was with watching some game. It shook me so much, though, that I just left early. That's still one of the strangest feelings I've ever had.

June 2008 at the Sardine Can in Green Bay, WI

A nice lookin gal across the patio bar sitting with a gay male couple:
"Hey you over there! You know you look a lot like Brett Favre"

Me: "Aw Shucks Yes ma'am. I've heard that a few times. Thank you!"

The gayer half of the gay couple:
"Honey!!! Brett would NEVER have a big ole belly like that"

Bartender to the sassy gay man(and my rescue):
"God dammit Travis! You owe him a drink now for being so rude! He's from Louisiana!"

True Story. They bought me a few more beers after that.

TLDR my nickname is Tubby Brett Favre.

There was a girl that looked like my sister. I had heard about her but never met her. I was bartending and she came up to the bar and I said it's you.. I explained and she knew about her look alike. And yes they looked identical.

I met mine while deployed. He was a German soldier. To this day people call him my exact image. He was just in from Germany last month and we hung out.

Saw mine when I was 8 years old. My parents and I went to pick up my sister from Girl Scout camp. There was some outdoor talent show-type crap each troop performed in that all the families had to watch before they were allowed to leave. Two picnic tables over was a kid staring at me, and I could tell why - it looked like I was staring at myself. It was freaky. Remember it vividly.

I was at a softball tournament a few years after I retired from the military and saw a guy that I thought was my old best friend from the military. I even went up close to the guy and he looked just like him. Even had the same knobby fingers he had. Freaked me out.

Another time I went to church with my now wife and in Sunday School was a girl that looked identical to my last girlfriend who was living in Tennessee. I thought she was stalking me or something. As soon as she opened her mouth I knew it wasn't her. Totally different voice.

We’re all living in a simulation and sometimes those simulations cross-mojonate. We do not have doppelganger’s, that person is you.

When I was a teen my parents were in a bowling league Friday nights and I would have to check in with them at the alley if I was gonna be out late.

Other people bowling or in pool shooting leagues that were scheduled for the same time would come up and start talking like they knew me. Even a couple visiting from FL.

Apparently there's someone from Wichita Falls that looks a lot like me. Have had several times when I've been there where people have come up to me there talking about they haven't seen me in so long, don't I remember them from school, etc.
