He tried his hand at the NFL and failed, he saw that College Football is heading that direction and said "I'm out." I don't blame him, he had a hell of a run and want's to retire without damaging his legacy. Good for him on knowing when to hang it up.

there is no backend reward for the players in this situation. Most of them aren't going to have a long NFL career, if one at all.
They are now in a position where they have leverage for money. It is not their fault for taking it.
you go turn down a massive pay raise and then you can judge them
The system is broken, hard to blame the players for abusing it, but it needs to get fixed.

This isn't different from coaching. Most football coaches won't have a long or profitable career in coaching.
I don't blame anyone for taking the bag when it presents itself. Life is too short to leave money on the table.
you are also ignoring the good ole boy network that shuffles coaches around. How many shite coaches got paid mid-6 figures on les miles staff alone? shite cam cameron got 1.25 to call toss dive

Saban’s demise was a product of his success.

Saban is saying what a lot of college coaches are thinking. They understand why the players are looking for money (NIL). But without any contracts, like in pro sports, tying a guy to a team for a set number of years, it is perpetual "free agency". For a guy like Saban who has accomplished everything one could as a college coach the hassle just wasn't worth it for him any longer.
You will have to recruit your entire team every year and cant coach them too hard or wait for them to be ready to play or else they will just leave.
Its the NFL with one year contracts and the courts have made clear there is no way to change it absent making them employees who are then subject to collective bargaining.

Yes, I'm sure Saban was struggling with figuring out how to pay players. LOLOLOLOLOL
The playing field is level now with paying players. Blue Blood coaches hate not having a competitive advantage.

NIL is a wonderful thing.

alabama had known for months that saban was leaving. Acting like this happened swiftly from zero to completion in 2 days is ridiculous.

notice it is not really about paying players that he is complaining about, it is more that they hold transferring over him to milk more money
The NCAA was never going to go after Saban so he was able to do whatever he wanted while the NCAA slapped around Ole Miss.

I still think Kiffin ends up at FSU or Miami in a few years.
UF next year. Napier is a dead man walking

Ole Miss beating Bama two years in a row, then being investigated was as predictable as death and taxes. Beyond laughable how obvious the NCAA and SEC makes the agenda.

Out of that entire read, biggest takeaway is glad they didn’t hire Norvell.
Oh, and Saban was a cheater. Level playing field does not work for him. Would have been a Dolphins repeat and he knew it.

"I thought we could have a hell of a team next year, and then maybe 70 or 80 percent of the players you talk to, all they want to know is two things: What assurances do I have that I'm going to play because they're thinking about transferring, and how much are you going to pay me?" Saban recounted. "Our program here was always built on how much value can we create for your future and your personal development, academic success in graduating and developing an NFL career on the field.
Don’t blame the dude one bit. Gotta be absolutely exhausting being in your 70s and dealing with the minute details of this shite with 19 year olds.

Exactly. Saban can say that he prepares his guys for a future but even Alabama probably only puts like 20-30% of their players in the NFL for even a year. The reality is that you can’t make a career out of a 3-5 year NFL stint. You’ll have to work again and it can’t be in your greatest skill (playing football). Increasing your earning years by 3-4 is huge for these players.
I don’t blame them one bit. It’s bad for the programs but that’s just the way it is. If the NCAA had allowed colleges to pay players, they could have worked out contracts, etc.

It's hard to feel remotely sorry for college footballs biggest cheater this century.
He helped create the situation he is in

Nick obviously leveraged his position for raises as well.
Not even close to being in the same stratosphere as college athletes doing what they’re doing. Come on man

Saban had every right to be pissed.

Saban was protected by the his buddies at the NCAA for years and allowed to play by a different set of rules. A level playing field must have been tough to swallow.
Melt.
