The article definitely plays around with the use/form of it, mostly specifying smoking and smoke but throwing around eating and edibles here and there.
Suspect re: that.

this feels like backwards science. are fat and lazy people more likely to use daily? Do those people also do other harmful things to their bodies that non-users dont?

quote:Sure, and I am not here to argue for banning MJ.
A lot of things in life that are fun are also bad for you in some way, so the results of the study are not surprising.
The point is, we need to move away from the common viewpoints of “MJ is harmless” and “MJ cannot be addictive”.
If people want to smoke, so be it. I smoke cigars on occasion. Definitely know the risks associated.

Big pharma funding this study?

The study, published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Heart Association, analyzed data on 430,000 adults collected from 2016 through 2020 through the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, a national phone survey performed each year by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
I can tell you that absolutely all the drugs I'd really like to injest recreationally increase my heart rate / BP and my risk for afib. This is MJ / THC for sure bc I've tried everything including edibles (sativa/indica/strains). This result made me sad.
I'm guessing it affects most people this way with or without the smoke (but not OT ballers, of course).

No. They found the opposite.

They accounted for other factors for heart disease.

Let me tell you about alcohol....

This isn’t true at all. THC levels back in the day (70s) was closer to 2-5%.
In the 70’s yeah. But I was in high school in the mid 2000’s and our stuff was def over 5%.

The "study" came via phone calls to random people
The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is a state-based system of telephone health surveys that collects information on health risk behaviors, preventive health practices, and health care access primarily related to chronic disease and injury. The survey was established in 1984.
Again, anything you put in your lungs beside oxygen is not good for you.
That's why I take edibles instead

A lot of people get defensive when this is pointed out
Know the risks going in and do what y’all want. Or ignore them, but don’t say it’s harmless

I don’t disagree but every time I’ve taken an edible I don’t feel anything.

I tried smoking after going on a date with a girl a few months ago because she was a daily user and gave me an excuse to go to her house.
I can't take it--that shite makes me feel actually ill, cold sweats, etc.
I took the edibles in Colorado on a ski trip and those are better, but I still felt sick the next morning. Doesn't really appeal to me

If we are going to ban drugs, we need to ban all of them. Alcohol, weed....
Also we need to ban fast food and sugary/fatty/salty snacks as well as anything fried.
We need to protect the people from themselves.
Why do we let people do these things to themselves at the publics expense?

oh idk maybe its the fact that our government has lied to Americans about the dangers of marijuana for a century. Just a wild arse guess though.

I would like the article to compare dietary patterns and physical fitness between the smoking and non smoking group as well. Are the smokers exercising as much as the non smokers? Do they have similar diets? Do they have preexisting levels of anxiety compared to the non smoking group?

Most of what I called for is already law .
Eta: I am just wondering why some things are selectively chosen as dangerous (and now illegal), and other dangerous things remain legal.
