I’m thinking boxing. Joe Louis vs Schmeling II deserves a shout because of the political ramifications.

I don't think that was televised

This is great in Facing Nolan. Ryans daughter talks about how it’s already bad enough when boys are intimidated because your dad is Nolan Ryan, and then he goes and beats the shite out of a kid half his age.

Didn’t Nolan stay in and finish that game?

Not THE greatest, but great:

The Saints onside kick to start the second half of the Superbowl.

Damn. I couldn’t imagine having to a theater to see a silent movie of a sporting event.

In the guys defense, at one time boxing was considered a “major” sport. I vaguely remember a commercial for a sports publication (think it was the sporting news, but not sure) that ran on ESPN where they touted the big four sports of “baseball, football, basketball and boxing”.

Mohammed Ali was one of the most recognized people in the world, not just an athlete.

I’m not sure I’d quite classify hockey as a niche sport, which I think would be something more like water polo or curling.

It's Super Bowl XLII.

Tom Brady and the undefeated Patriots fall in wildly dramatic fashion to Eli Manning and the Giants, as Manning leads an improbable drive while looking like Forrest Gump, entirely unaffected by the weight of the situation.

This is a college football board for the most part so I’ll nominate the greatest game ever.

This. One of those games you remember everything about and exactly where you were and what you were doing at that moment

Funny thing about the Nolan Ryan clip is he wasn’t landing the punches and probably didn’t want to. He wasn’t hurting his throwing hand. Ventura didn’t want to charge the mound, but felt pressure to due to the code.

As a Giants fan, this game is easily a top five sports event for me personally. Probably number two behind Syracuse winning March Madness in 2003. But I don't think it would be held in such high regard by most other sports fans.
