It’s typically only something i do on 55 mph two lane country roads. It’s significantly safer than hoping the driver of the car behind you is paying attention.

Some people probably do that to hurry and get away from the aszhole behind them tailgating.

frick getting rear ended by some a-hole glancing at their phone behind me.
And frick you.
You could just use your blinker and slow down early enough.
If I'm behind you also turning right and you're in the shoulder while I'm making a legal turn, frick you

Why would you care? You’re going to do the exact same thing whether he’s in front of you or on the shoulder.

Just turn like normal
How is it increasing the risk of an accident?

Not to mention, it's illegal. If you get in a wreck you are at fault.

I can see a lot of people here do not know how to think on their own and assess situations in front of them. Will I use the turn lane? Sometimes yes and sometimes no, it depends on the shoulder, driving conditions, and traffic.

I do it if there's enough room for people behind me to pass while I'm turning. I'ld rather do that than be the dick who comes to a complete stop in the center of the lane before making a right-hand turn.
I hate it for you that my courtesy gets on your nerves.

People that ride their brakes just because they’re going down hill.

Courtesy often subverts the rules of the road and leads to accidents. I don't trust people's courtesy on the road; I've witnessed multiple accidents because someone was trying to be nice and wave someone in, for example.
I don't get mad at people that get on the shoulder to turn right but I don't do it. I put my blinker on as expected and try not to turn obnoxiously slow

Having had a tire go flat from debris on the shoulder as well as the windshield damage from shoulder debris being kicked up and into traffic by shoulder driving/drivers, I actively try NOT to get on the shoulder at all.

Good! Get the frick out the way!

I do that and this will really piss you off, in the country I go to the left (head on) lane when making a left hand turn when people are coming from behind.
Posted on 2/23/24 at 8:04 am to LSU6262
More important here is that every dimwit who makes their own lane to turn right, then must absolutely disregard law & logic and change lanes during the course of the right turn so that they turn into the LH lane. That way they can disallow oncoming left turners from turning left into the LH lane and completely hinder the proper & logical flow of traffic.

It depends on the situation. Sometimes there should be a right lane but for bad design.

My ex's father who was a former cheif of police said while illegal, because you are crossing a solid line, pulling into the shoulder first is the safer way to turn.

You're actually being an a-hole and putting others in danger when you do this.
Found the guy going 70 in the left lane while yelling at people passing him on the right.
