I figured that wasn't it when there weren't other issues reported.
The solar flares are smart enough to target only certain cell providers.

Seen speculation that the Sim registry database was down. Would make sense I guess if phones couldn't re-verify their Sim when it expired, while other phones had re-verified more recently, therefore stayed connected.

Just wait to a REAL event happens like a nationwide blackout or real cyberattack.
50% of the country can’t wipe their A$$ without WiFi and IoT has made it where your damn toaster or dryer is susceptible….
Could get really interesting real fast if God forbid it happens
Yep.
Move away from the city, become as self-sufficient as possible, and work towards building reciprocal relationships with your neighbors.

We lost cell service for 12 hours and you recommend a complete lifestyle change?

On a smaller scale, I have lost some communications for longer after Hurricane.
Now that is a localized event, but if it happens on a larger scale we could be fregged up.

I switched to Verizon last year; it ain’t any better.
I can not believe that any company ever could have as bad of customer service as ATT. Ive never in my 56 years experienced anything like it
About three years ago, I switched to Spectrum mobile and have never had one single issue with my phone or dealing with them. They may suck too eventually but for now, I would use two cans and a string before I go back to ATT for anything

This is just the tip of the iceberg… a cyber attack is coming… it will shutdown this country.

It really is amazing. It’s so bad that I am convinced they must be actively trying to be bad at customer service. I fricking dread having to call AT&T. Ditched them for Verizon cellular but still stuck with them for internet.

From AT&T:

Based on our initial review, we believe the outage was caused by the application & execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network, not a cyber attack. We are continuing our assessment to ensure we keep delivering the service that our customers deserve.

I switched from ATT to Verizon probably 15-17 years ago and have never had a problem with Verizon.

They basically STOLE $1100 from me. Im talking flat out took it from me for zero reason. I tried for over a year to get it back. I spent at least 12 hours on the phone with them trying to get it back. I eventually got to a person who agreed to refund $250 of it. I gave up $850 just to be free of them. I then cancelled with them and told them all to frick off until they hung up on me.
It was the most unwired I have ever been in my lifetime

I knew at around 5ish this morning that ATT was out and was looking forward to my day since the only way work people can contact me is through my cellphone.

Might be the most AT&T story I've ever heard.

For the win!
I didn't read through the previous 20 pages of comments, but for Joshjrn, an old IT trope... "It's a DNS problem."
It's always DNS.
My guess is that is a third party provider. This is based on Little Caesar's mobile app not being able to authenticate (on Wi-Fi) but the website working fine. My investigation is concluded.

"Based on our initial review, we believe that (Thursday's) outage was caused by the application and execution of an incorrect process used as we were expanding our network, not a cyber attack, a spokesperson from AT&T said on the company's website. "We are continuing our assessment of today’s outage to ensure we keep delivering the service that our customers deserve."
What about that cyberattack, buddy?
