My oldest works in Jefferson parish. Supposedly they are talking about plans to also bring in some metro deputies and officers as a help for a task force.
Who knows though

A small subset of the population is responsible for the violence. Throw them in prison, forever. And things get better.

Just quit dredging the Mississippi and let nature take care of New Orleans

Can’t stand those California and New England carpetbaggers. They are to blame every bit as much as da local culcha.

Does his plan do something to address all the crime that makes New Orleans a dangerous place?
If not, then this effort is all smoke and mirrors.

What an asinine statement.

The consent decree doesn’t apply to state law enforcement.

Can you explain the Consent Degree and its affect on New Orleans?

Just do what Giuliani and his crew did. It was an amazing turnaround.

People on here won't like it but he is correct.
However, until the Consent Decree dies a horrible death, it can't change too much.

Agreed with all of the above. About the only thing I've ever heard Mitch Landrieu say that I agree with is "the farther you get from Louisiana, the more likely it is that the only thing people there know about Louisiana is New Orleans". Having our primary tourism draw constantly battling for the title of Nation's Most Murdery City doesn't help the state in any way.

Orleans Justice Center now but it’s census was only 150 below it’s 1,400 bed capacity late last year.
I don’t think it’s been below half capacity for a long time.

Taking away the port and New Orleans would surely do wonders do improve our great state.

Requires cops to spend most of their time doing paperwork and prevents them from cracking skulls.
Cracking sculls is a necessary requirement of urban policing

Landry is right but a lot of legislators, like board posters, won’t see it that way.
Rep. Billy Bob Bumpkin isn’t going to give up a 1 Mile repaving project on a state Highway to pay for more police in NOLA

Yawn
I wasn’t old enough to vote for Barthelemy, Morial or Nagin - nor did I live in New Orleans when they were elected.

Maybe there's actually something to be said for a Billy Bob Bumpkin type as governor pushing hard for such a thing, though.

There’s probably about 1000 career criminals including the nonviolent. But the question still remains: Where are you going to put this 1000 for 20-life? The half full parish prison is not set up for such sentences. Every parish is trying to get space in the state system to rid themselves of the worst of the worst, there’s no room.
