My Company had layoffs and a RIF.

Healthcare company that I’ve been with for nearly three years in a Compliance role. Thankfully I was not laid off; however, my salary was frozen for a year and not eligible for the yearly bonus. (The rationale there was they wanted to keep me but needed to justify since I make more than the rest of the team)
I am trying to look at the silver lining that I wasn’t one of the ones laid off. It’ll suck not getting the increase or bonus this year though. I really have enjoyed working for this company and they allowed me to move a year back to be closer to family and be a remote employee. Basically my work/life balance is too good for me to want to leave now and i do enjoy the work.
Any suggestions? My thoughts and prayers are out to anyone who did get laid off.

Sounds like you are content with no bonus/increase. When you aren't, look elsewhere. Pretty simple

I'd slack off now that you made it and get your bonus through 26 hour work weeks

Get the resume updated and start at least considering options. I hate to be a downer, but this is likely only the first round.

You have a job still. What are you bitching about?

What kind of suggestions are you looking for? One year salary freeze is not that big of a deal considering all the other positive factors you listed. My suggestion would be to count your blessings.

Most everything healthcare related is going to see cuts in coming years.
More and more people on Medicare/Medicaid.
Decreased reimbursement.
17% or so of our GDP is healthcare.
Rest of world around 11% tops.
Healthcare is an unsustainable bubble.
The easiest thing to cut is people.

Lucky you still have work considering you aren’t really working

The funny part is that we are transitioning into a merit based raise system from a COLA one. I don’t have much incentive haha

Take the win and start looking for another job while you try and figure out the current company situation. It sucks not getting a raise and bonus, but there are now fewer people in the organization, which means if there is any growth you should be able to leverage into a new more prominent role with higher pay.

Guess I just needed to hear this. I’ve never been involved with something like this.

I have not had a raise in years and my annual bonus was a shirt that is so ugly I wouldn't wear it to scrub gas station toilets. Count your blessings

Back up plan is essential
I wouldn’t take a deep breath of relief for not getting laid off. Better be prepared for a second round.

The media is doing a great job of hiding the shitty economy (though the market is doing well).
I represent a bunch of manufacturing plants in my labor and employment practice. They are all struggling with lower sales.
Those who make stuff are suffering, those who make money from the market are doing well.

They did announce that they were done for the year and our department was featured in our last All Hands call so am not TOO worried about another round

Somehow, we are having tons of layoffs being announced while simultaneously having the greatest economy in history and record low unemployment.

As someone who's been in the workforce for 25+ years this is the correct answer.
