Your error is that you think that the manager that has to decide who gets RIF'd gives a damn. Since you use the term RIF, I assume you're ex military. That's not civilian life.
What happens two quarters from now is not their concern.

This thread is amusing. The advice is all over the place. Asked and received.
Be careful with it. Don't let social media be a big factor in a major job decision. Some of these posts could have you living in fear of losing your job on a daily basis. Not a good way to live. Other posts label you as a complainer and want you to count your blessings. Lol.
The fact is no posters know many details about your situation. Some folks have been laid off multiple times in their career and some have never been laid off. Each post is coming from A different perspective.

Basically my work/life balance is too good for me to want to leave now and i do enjoy the work.
Any suggestions?
Yes, and it applies to all things in life. Be grateful for the things you do have and do not pay a moments thought to the things you do not have. If you have a job that you enjoy and the work/life balance fits your lifestyle and it covers your nut be happy. If it does not cover your nut without the bonus it was an illusion to begin with because it did not pay enough to cover your nut without an arbitrary bonus. If it does not cover your nut the work/life balance is out of whack and it will soon come to suck...or you will adjust your nut and be happy.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the word “nut” used so many times in one paragraph.

I'd start looking. It's only a matter of time. Layoffs and freezes are just temporary fixes to the big problem.

layoffs and a RIF.
Are these not the same?

Great point, thanks! I’ve decided to passively look around and if a better paying opportunity comes around that is worth it from a work/life balance perspective I may jump

I’d love to understand what your job is in healthcare.
I explained in general what I do and did. My current role is in planning for the lines that fill product to sell in markets around the world.
I'm not specifically in healthcare but in the manufacturing of products that people use OTC and by prescription.

Somehow, we are having tons of layoffs being announced while simultaneously having the greatest economy in history and record low unemployment.
My sister was laid off after working at a place for 11 years. Not to mention that this comes on the heels of our mother's passing just a few weeks ago.
