Depends on the price and the deal. Paying $22K vs $20K is a lot different than posting $52K vs $50K IMO.
The GM contacted me as a follow up and I simply told him "Nobody gave me a price"... he apologized, gave a price, and said he would match any written offer. The only difference here and the first person was they never gave me a price!!! EVER!!! Its a little off where I want to be, but it is the exact car. If they would have started with a price this morning I would have picked it up today...
All communication has been through email.

Anyone who’s having a voice conversation with a salesperson is doing it wrong. It’s email. It’s gonna be all over email. You’re gonna send me the final price with taxes and all your bullshite fees. We’re not playing this game. I’m in and out of the building in under 10 minutes or I’m leaving. I’ll not do business here.

Do your research
Know what you are willing to pay for a car
Put the number on the back of your business card
Walk into the dealership, hand the card to the manager and tell them this is what I am willing to pay for this car. Call me if you want to sell it and walk out.

I bought one a few years back, the process took forever and I was worn down mentally so I let the finance guy screw me on a service plan warranty etc.
I tried to call back to cancel some of it but the coward refused my calls.
Fast Forward- just this week their sales guy text me asking if I was ready to upgrade.
?? bad move on his part, I kindly explained what pieces of shite they all are

Why does it take 2 hours to get the paperwork done? I paid cash for a 43 mpg commuter in October. I paid their price that was listed on CarGurus. Called them, told them if it was still available I would buy it. Salesman met me in the parking lot, I had the verified check for him, he takes it and returns in about 10 minutes with the paperwork. I’d already told him I was not interested in anything other than the car, no extended warranty, nothing they sold….still took almost 2 hours to get the keys and leave. I’ve bought and sold real estate, cars, boats, all manner of shite in less time.

Ive bought all new vehicles from Gossett motors in Memphis. They have a dealership for nearly every make and model and will do the entire deal via email including all paperwork
I drive 5 hrs, drop the trade, sign the papers, go get ribs at rendezvous, then drive back home. There is zero chance I’ll ever do it any other way

no one wakes up one day wanting to sell cars. car salesman are usually high school grads at most who have no drive or passion in life, in their 40's making 50k/yea
And they have potbellies who constantly walk around the dealership with one piece of paper. It is amusing because I see it all the time.

recently purchased a car from Jim Taylor Chevrolet in Rayville and it was the easiest most stress free car buying experience ever. We did everything through email. I showed up to the dealership, signed the papers, gave them my trade, a check and drove back to Baton Rouge.
I either sell my vehicle outright if someone is looking for what I have and can do it quickly, or trade
They give me the trade value. I ask for their deal to be sent. I generally come back and ask for 1200-2000 less. I don’t care how you get it. I also offer to finance thru them to let em make a few more bucks Then buy it out in about three months.

I am having this same issue right now with a dealer. I asked them directly for a price. Their response was to send me a picture of the window sticker and tell me that they will go over all of that in financing. I told them I have my own financing already arranged but they can try to beat it if they want. I asked again for a simple price of the car before any financing or taxes, give me a price, they won't give me a price, dudes are fricking clowns.

Me: YOU NEVER GAVE ME A PRICE!
In this type of scenario, the first person that voluntarily gives up their price loses leverage. This is why the dealership didn’t want to do it.

Tell them ok and stop responding.
They’re either correct and they can sell it for more, or ots a bluff and they’ll be blowing up your phone at month end wondering why you quit them.
Impatience is your enemy here, dont be impatient.

Do the major car manufacturers push this behavior by their dealers or just ignore it? I guess after the Saturn experiment got shut down none of them will try something similar unless forced.

Sucks to be poor and not know anyone that owns a dealership
Posted on 2/17/24 at 8:57 pm to r0cky1
I actually know a guy that owns a Nissan Dealer.
He sold me a demo Titan for a fair price.
I bought some pre owned vehicles in the past from him also.

At my dealership, all of our prices are listed online. The Internet has really changed how you shop for a car now. You either put your best price online or you suffer from not getting enough Internet traffic that leads to people in the store. What makes it difficult is people's mindset that this is still 1995 and everything is negotiable and cash is king. If you're paying cash,I go up on price. Banks pay me a reserve to finance with them, why would I give you a better price and lose that if you're outside financing or paying cash? My rates typically always beat or match a bank's. At the end of the day, this is still not a non-profit business. People negotiate harder on their cars than they do houses.

Sounds like if you have to ask you can't afford it.
If you DON'T ask, you're a f-ing idiot. Ya think Trump, or Musk, or any of the really financially successful people you know ever paid for anything without asking for the price?
No.
But I've seen a lot of poors go to make a purchase like a car or house and just accept whatever price they're told. And that's why they remain poors.

Bought a new vehicle last month, sticker was $50k got out of there in an hour for $50k tax, title, license, and all the bs warranties they insisted I had to have. I feel like thats about the best you can do on any popular vehicle these days. Also, was able to get the interest rate down an additional 1.5 because of my credit
Curious what Truedelta says the avg price of the car would be if sticker minus TTL/BS is a good deal.
