A brief

Me: My wife wants this exact car, what is your price?
Them: What do you want to pay?
Me: I don't want to play dealer games, I just want to buy a car, I hate buying cars. I am seeing market pricing of this amount.
Them: Send us a written quote.
Me: I don't have a written quote, its published here.
Them: We need a written quote for that price.
Me: I asked you for your price, you asked what I wanted to pay, I told you, I just would like a price.
Them: We are too far apart on price.
Me: YOU NEVER GAVE ME A PRICE!

Seriously, just tell me how much you will sell the car for and I will decide if I take it or leave it. Am I going to walk on the car my wife wants on $1-2k? NO, but if it was for me I sure has hell would.

I haven’t dealt with a situation like that when buying a vehicle in a long time.

how else are they going to get you to agree to pay $13k higher than the sticker price.

they wear you down until you will pay any price just to end the BS and get the car buying experience to end.

Sounds like if you have to ask you can't afford it.

Just make sure that if they do give you a price you insist on them providing proof of someone paying the price they quote

The local dealer is like walking down carnival row or I would buy locally.

This dealer is an hour away, looks like good rep online, but damn, if they just gave me a price I'd probably buy it right now. The show me a quote before I give you a quote is chicken shite, they probably don't want me to use their quote somewhere else, but frick I just want to buy a car and not play games. Oh, and they were pushing for a credit application before giving a price.. just tell me the price.

I recently purchased a car from Jim Taylor Chevrolet in Rayville and it was the easiest most stress free car buying experience ever. We did everything through email. I showed up to the dealership, signed the papers, gave them my trade, a check and drove back to Baton Rouge.

I haven’t dealt with a salesmen in person to negotiate the price of a vehicle purchase in over 10 years.

I do it all through email. The only time I see the salesperson is when I show up to take possession of the vehicle.

frick going in person and dealing with their shite.

I was so shocked when after shopping 5-6 dealers across LA and TX that when I got to a good one I threatened to beat him up if he was messing around. He laughed and assured me no funny business so my husband and I got on a plane an hour later and flew to pick my car up. Then when the skeezeballs I had been dealing with checked in with their "too good to pass up" crap I sent them pics of my purchase.

I bought my daughter a car Monday. I have to say the buying process was pretty easy. No haggling, they gave us a price, we agreed and went from there. Got to the dealership at 3:30, I was home for 6, and that was including the test drive and all paperwork.

Tell them you want an out-the-door price. If they won’t give you one, walk out. There are other dealers that are much more straightforward these days. You really don’t have to put up with the crap, and if your SO can’t understand that, that’s her problem.

It’s easier now than ever. Research invoice price, dealer add on invoice price, figure out manufacturer holdback, and any incentives. E-mail dealership(s) that has the vehicle you want, and workout price via e-mall. Once you are happy w/price, agree over e-mail, then show up to do paperwork and drive it home.
