Spent a lot of time in midland associated with our company office there.. a common comment from friends that lived there(some of us started together in Nola)…was no one wants to move to midland but not uncommon for the same people to not want to move once established and involved in raising family..
It offers what you would want if you are family focused. Good schools ..sports for kids.. etc.. suburban life.
West Texas is not for me but I know people that could not wait to move back.. all in your perspective on life..

Been to Midland once. Bubba’s 33 restaurant has the best burgers I’ve ever had by far.

I would like it from a storm chasing perspective.

Watch out for gravel whirlwinds in parking lots.

Where? There’s nothing around for hours on end.

San Angelo is the closest place with a lake. 1 1/2-2 hour drive. Lots of people have places in the Texas hill country. Granbury and Horseshoe Bay are real popular too.

Keep in mind you visited during the coolest time of the year. Summers are hot.

Midland sucks but I can't imagine CENLA is great
This impact your wife's career at all?

Why Midland?
What’s wrong with Bogalusa?

Home is where you make it as long as some family is there with you, traveling employees have to accept that and the successful ones figure out a way to make new places home.
Midland is like most west Texas, hot, dry, flat and kinda barren compared to parts of Louisiana but Midland has had a lot of growth in recent years due to activity in the Permian Basin and the list of major companies out there reads like a Who’s Who in the petroleum world. Many workers like yourself are moving there and making it work because of high paying jobs. My son’s best friend is about to graduate from Texas Tech with an engineering degree, his girlfriend is also; Chevron had them for a 3 month apprenticeship and offered them $150,000 per year each to come work in Midland. So a young couple, just out of college, zoomed from the point questioning where they’d be job hunting to making $300,000 their first year in Midland. It was enough to make them love the idea of moving to Midland Tx.

Never been to Bogalusa but what's the appeal there? Is it even known for anything other than being some random town in LA?

Too small for my liking

If you are already married midland can be a nice place to live especially if the money is right which I assume it is in the oil field
I’d do it
Midland has really expanded from what you used to think of midland

There are some really nice areas outside of midland that we saw. Greenwood was nice area with houses with acreage.

Complete with soggy west Texas fries.
Seriously the food out there blows.

Depends on your lifestyle. Since you’re coming from cenla I can’t imagine midland being a downgrade. I’ve been told midland has come a long way over the past decade.
It’s only going to keep improving and growing too. It’s not some tumbleweed po dunk roughneck town like it once was. It’s just so far from many places you pretty much have to fly any time you want to travel. Not too far from ski towns that’s a plus

Midland, out in the middle of nowhere. Better buy an Xbox.

The old timers told my geologist son that you make some real good friends out there.
