Seems smart to me. He's 60 years old and he knows UCLA is fricked. Why ride it all the way to the bottom and have to look for a job next year.
Ohio St. will likely look good on offense and score a bunch of points this year. That'll have his stock higher than it would have been going 5-7 at UCLA and getting fired.
I'd imagine NFL OC for a defensive head coach would be his goal. This is a better way to get there.
