Too many to count unfortunately. One side of my family is the East TN version of the Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. It's funny to anyone from the outside looking in and a nightmare from the inside looking out.

The opiod epidemic ruined Appalachia

I am lucky. Don't know a single family member who's ever had drug problems. A few alcoholics (mostly functioning alcoholics) but no one who just lays around shooting heroin or smoking meth.

If your brother is as bad as you say and your parents are as old as you suggest, they need to make sure whatever he gets when they’re gone is going to be in a trust where he can’t control it.

My baw, get his arse into rehab and off that shite, properly medicated and there's a good chance he'll recover.

He'll never win messing with that Djinn in a bottle. Getting off it is step one

Gets your super high and giggly for like literally 10 seconds. Then you have to do another one.

Yes… it’s horrid because there is absolutely nothing you can do to get that person to change

That could get contentious. Who would be the Trustee? OP? Sounds like a recipe for trouble...you know...family and money.

It’s not nitrous. That doesn’t do that. It’s something else.

I liken it to a Djinn, that grants your momentary wish, but it is fleeting, and so you go back to the bottle. You become a slave to the Djinn, ever wishing for false and fleeting wishes.

A stepson that was bad on heroin. But by the grace of God he finally, after several attempts, got clean and has been for about 8 years. My marriage was severely strained at that time. I had a hard time convincing my wife to practice tough love. She finally figured it out and that was precisely what put him on the road to recovery. He's doing so well now, I'm amazed. I'm really proud of him!

A couple of distant cousins went bad years ago. I saw one about 3 months ago and wouldn't have recognized him if he wasn't with my aunt. My exes cousin shot up in a car and oded and they didn't find him for a few days in the South Texas heat in the cab of a pickup truck. The verb I heard was liquified.

Yes. BIL had a great job making tons of money, started hitting coke, lost his job and slid down the drug chain to crack. Went through several drug rehab programs, disappeared and the last we heard he was living in a dumpster behind a store at a mall. Time after time everyone in his family tried to help him but to no avail. It's all emotional damage control now with my wife.

My little brother was hooked on pain pills for 15+ years. Long story short, it got really bad for him and all of us having to deal with it. Spent a little over a year in jail and once out never looked back. He has a great job, engaged and has a little girl. Clean over 10 years now…he definitely beat the odds. Sorry to hear about your situation, I know it sucks from experience.

I know a guy that was hooked on the nitrous pretty bad. Found the right place to go and he kicked it. Doing well now. I’m proud of him.

I just watched a Youtube video on it. I think I got that when I had hernia surgery 30 years ago.

I know this sounds horrible, but I'd rather he just die than to watch mybparents have to deal with that the rest of their lives. If they had already passed I would do everything and anything to save him but I have other people to think about.

Your brother needs Jesus and you can help him find the way. I wish you and your family peace.

This does not make sense in so many ways. You don’t give up on a little brother after a few months.

Addiction is a battle. Talk to a professional. You aren’t equipped to deal with this.
