Some people I know are going to New Orleans later this year
They already know that the chance they are murdered is > 90%
With those odds, the best bet would be to not venture past airport access road.

Yeah, stay in your room at night.
Other than that, have fun.
But seriously, the problems will be being out late in the quarter.
See, these people get it..

We’ve been to NOLA multiple times. I think it’s ran its course. Bourbon St music was horrible. Very few jazz bands mostly hip hop and rap. During the day we felt mostly safe not so much once the sun went down. Too ghetto.

Stick to populated areas
Avoid canal street at night.
Don’t walk anywhere late at night. Maybe stick to royal/bourbon
If you have to travel any distance late, Uber it. Don’t walk down vacant streets

Stick to the streets with a good number of other people walking around. Avoid side streets where there's hardly anybody else around.
Keep your wallet in your front pocket when walking around Bourbon St or in any crowded bars to avoid getting pickpocketed. Or tell them to leave their wallet and purse in the hotel room and just bring an ID with enough cash or one card.

Avoid the Quarter entirely

Are Union Cabs (not unionized, Union was the name of the cab company) still the least ghetto drivers?
Posted on 1/31/24 at 12:47 pm to real turf fan
It's United Cabs and yes they are still operating in New Orleans

Just stay around the DMZ and you should be fine

They must really enjoy the smell of a piss filled street to pay for those odds.

Tell them to go to the Rib Room for their last meal before being assaulted on the street.
Posted on 1/31/24 at 1:05 pm to Paul3434
There's still a slight chill at night, tell them to pack their fur-lined bulletproof vests.

The only area I’d avoid is the 100-200 block of bourbon. The rest is safe

Stay riverside of Bourbon and they will be fine. Stick with Royal and Chartres.

Don’t be a Karen. Just use common sense
Karen's gonna Karen....its what they do. Common sense does not exist in the breed. His friends are probably laughing their arse off when he ain't around for being scared of New Orleans. Probably can't leave the house without a gun without feeling naked. Probably worries about the house being locked at night. Illogical fears are a severe mental health issue that is damn near impossible to treat...

How does this work? You can cross over a street while just wondering around and be in a place you don’t want to be. I’m not sure how common sense is supposed to work for someone who has never been to New Orleans
Imagine, if you will, that people are like baitfish and criminals are predators that feed on baitfish. You see a big wad of baitfish, very few if any of them are going to get eaten. When one wonders away from the pack though they get eaten almost immediately. A predator fish will bust up a school of baitfish and eat some but when they ain't actively feeding they will not...but they will eat one that is not in the school out of reflex. Criminals will not bust up a school of folks because doing so is a good way to get carted off to jail and whats the fun in that...plus criminals knows one of the minnows is going to frick up and wonder off and he can eat that minnow without any risk. Use common sense....don't be that minnor. I don't care if you are in New Orleans or Juarez...if you do not become that fish you are probably going to survive. Hell, even if you do become that minnow, even in the worst neighborhoods in the world, you are probably gonna survive...the people who live there do it every fricking day.

So someone new to NOLA just needs to travel with the crowd or in a large group?
What a shithole if that’s the case
