I believe some of you guys had booked there for the LSU/USCw game.

quote:

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Tropicana Las Vegas, a Sin City landmark for more than six decades, is shutting its doors in the spring to make room for a $1.5 billion Major League Baseball stadium that will be home to the relocating Oakland Athletics.

Bally’s says it will no longer accept hotel bookings after April 2 and will relocate any customers who reserve past the closing date.

Thanks for the memories, but we knew it was coming!

I don’t know why any city would want the A’s until they have new ownership. They are committed to being the worst team in MLB.

I stayed there in May this past year, it was time. Very small gaming floor and you have to walk an outrageous distance to get to your room and place seemed dated. It worked for me as I was there for work and wasn't as concerned about the casino.

Yes. The A’s are going to be the worst team for the next 30 years. They’re never going to attempt to get any better. The new ownership is only interested in losing just so they can never pay for the stadium they’re going to build

Do any of you ever think about the absolute posts before you hit submit?

They don’t have new ownership. He’s owned the team since 2005.

Went to the Stardust for the last weekend it was open. Would love to do the same for the Tropicana, but there’s no way I can that weekend.

Right now they play in a certified shithole… a new stadium in a new city might change things

Got married there many many years ago. We took the cash we saved and bought our first house.

Since 2005, the team finished in last 5 times. That’s 5 out of 18 years. Out of those 18 years, they finished 1st or 2nd in 9 of those seasons.

So yeah, you’re right. His ambition is to be the worst franchise in baseball.

His goal was to move the team. You don’t spend money for a few years if you want to move a team. Hence the last couple of seasons recently.

For 8 games of an NFL schedule, sure. For 81 games of a MLB schedule? I can't see relying on that for revenue.

Granted its only 41, but even a great VGK team has to deal with loud numerous opposing fans every game.

It will be a gigantic flop. The A's fanbase is tiny and hate the team and I can't see them traveling to Vegas for more than a few games. Instead it will be entirely dependent on tourists already visiting Vegas to fill the seats and I don't see casual baseball fans wasting an afternoon in Vegas to watch a shitty team in 100+ degree weather even if the tickets are comped.

You can't compare it to the Raiders because the Raiders have a much larger and devoted fanbase, a much smaller season, and many in Vegas used to live in Southern California where the Raiders played for years.

It's destined to join the bottom tier of Vegas entertainment (the Miracle Mile Shops shows).

I think they're trying to build a new fanbase out in Vegas just like with the Golden Knights. If they are banking on Oakland fans travelling, they already failed.

Were they actually planning on paying for it?
