Norfolk or Bull Shoals Lake, glitter boat above the dam, and fly fish below it, can red neck yacht club, waverunner, kayak or stand up paddle board too if you want.
Probably as south as you can be to see all four seasons, and still in central time zone. Drinking coffee on the porch when it was 55° in June made me want to sell my shite and quit work right there.
Besides the fishing, there’s great outdoorsing around the area. Deer and duck hunting plus golf and hiking are all above average.

What part? I grew up in Corinth and my mom and SIL is still there.
My in-laws live on the lake at Pickwick.

I’m 55, bought what will be retirement home on Toledo bend, Texas side. Have it on VRBO for now to balance expenses. Great views, clean water, sandy bottom. Deep so water stays pretty cool all summer. Good fishing, nice neighbors. Quiet.

The one I'm "retired on" ... Lake Murray, SC.
Well, when I'm not at the farmhouse.

Lake Hamilton
Went this summer, too touristy for me, wasn't impressed. Lake Ouachita was awesome though

Lake Ouachita! My favorite place on the planet.

The correct answer is not a lake.
It’s Grand Isle.

I retired on Toledo Bend. I grew up on Toledo Bend.
Pros- One of the best fishing lakes in the nation. Real estate prices. Always something going on.
Cons- HEAT in the summer. Cell phone coverage. Contractors.
I adjust my schedule (because I can) during summer when it gots real hot in August/Sept.
I’m in a cell phone hole (Zwolle) but can drive less than 1/2 mile south and pick up 4 bars.
Gotta be careful of the meth heads. Of course they are everywhere.
Good luck

I would think Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri would be nice but I have never been there.
Depends on what type of lake life you want. That's the party lake for Missouri. All the money out of KC and St. Louis heads there to tear it up.
Kinda like Lake Hamilton is the party lake for Arkansas.
I spend a bunch of time on Table Rock Lake. Very laid-back lake, when compared to Lake of the Ozarks.

I lived on Norfork for 2 years, and I agree with everything you are saying, not to mention they have small mouth and walleye as well. My only complaint is the largemouth do not get as big as they do farther South.
Fork is in a funk and has not produced as many giant bass recently as it has in the past. The jury is still out on what's going on there.
Toledo is doing okay and ready to reemerge as a top bass lake in the nation if it continues on it's current track.
Final answer, retire on Toledo, go to Bull Shoals/Norfork for vacation a couple of weeks during the heat of summer.

And Table Rock and Taneycomo wouldn’t be bad.
