but a small subset of progressive liberal beltway wine aunts can sleep easier knowing that instead of American LNG projects, which are the most efficient and carbon friendly in the world, the west will rely on Russian and 3rd world hydrocarbons.

This wouldn’t affect already approved projects that are currently planned to come online late 2024/25, right?

Because that would be devastating.

The ultimate irony is that if climate change is occurring, it would ultimately put all of these projects out of business anyways. No cold winters means we don’t need all the storage.

Whitehouse Statement

quote:

In every corner of the country and the world, people are suffering the devastating toll of climate change. Historic hurricanes and floods wiping out homes, businesses, and houses of worship. Wildfires destroying whole neighborhoods and forcing families to leave their communities behind. Record temperatures affecting the lives and livelihoods of millions of Americans, especially the most vulnerable.

From Day One, my Administration has set the United States on an unprecedented course to tackle the climate crisis at home and abroad – securing the largest climate investment in the history of the world, unlocking clean energy breakthroughs that will power a clean economy and create thousands of jobs, advancing environmental justice for all, and rallying world leaders to transition away from the fossil fuels that jeopardize our planet and our people.

But more action is needed.

My Administration is announcing today a temporary pause on pending decisions of Liquefied Natural Gas exports – with the exception of unanticipated and immediate national security emergencies. During this period, we will take a hard look at the impacts of LNG exports on energy costs, America’s energy security, and our environment. This pause on new LNG approvals sees the climate crisis for what it is: the existential threat of our time.

While MAGA Republicans willfully deny the urgency of the climate crisis, condemning the American people to a dangerous future, my Administration will not be complacent. We will not cede to special interests.

We will heed the calls of young people and frontline communities who are using their voices to demand action from those with the power to act. And as America has always done, we will turn crisis into opportunity – creating clean energy jobs, improving quality of life, and building a more hopeful future for our children.

This will not affect those projects that already have their license to construct and operate.

We will not cede to special interests.

Only to countries like Qatar since they line our pockets

Must be an election year. And people that buy this garbage and vote for these politicians are ignorant and didn’t live through or study history when they said the climate was dangerous in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s.

Remember, politicians think you’re dumb and use you for their job security.

These folks should sign a pact to never use electricity generated from fuels that offend then, or never buy any products from folks who use that electricity.

Of course, that won't happen. Virtue signalling is free.

While frustrating, the delay only affects export, for now. It doesn’t stop FERC approval to build the facility.

True. And honestly to be fair, to get approval from the DOE to export to Free Trade Agreement countries was relatively easy and quick. What I see happening now is the DOE will become a cooperating agency with FERC and will point to the FERC's "climate analysis" for each project and use it as a way for the DOE to check the box that they also looked at the climate impacts.

As long as it doesn’t affect FERC approval, this is simply a political tactic in an election year

Operating yes, under construction no! I know first hand from a family member in the SW La construction industry, that as of yesterday contracts for several hundred thousand yards of concrete being sent to an already under construction LNG project were voided. Along with the cancelation of large amounts of cement powder utilized for stabilization purposes. Something along the lines of the EPA requiring new 2-4 year environmental studies on even ongoing projects. People here are pissed.

I often wonder if they actual believe what they are saying or if it's all just an act to drive the sheep in a certain direction?
