I have some favorites in the FQ, but logistically GW’s is hard to get to & the payoff is not worth it. Food is ok but I’m not fighting to get there.,

Bunch I thought we didn’t like GW Fins. What’s up with all these recs
I don't get it. GW Fins is fine, I guess, but certainly nothing special.
Tourists and people that go out to eat once a year seem to love it.
I gave it 3 chances over the course of many years and I just will never get it.

Right. It’s convenient for people saying in or around the Quarter who may be looking for something between Old Garde and Avant Garde. It’s sort of just perfect for what it is in that regard.
It’s not the type of place where you would have any reason to go out of your way to eat there, though.

Yeah I don't understand someone who lives in New Orleans area going out of their way to go there.
One time I went because I was in the FQ for Dirty Linen, ran into some friends that already had a reservation and were able to add two more. I wouldn't have gone otherwise

GW Fins is consistently the best restaurant in the Quarter and has been for a number of years. I’ve never had anything average there in 15+ visits.

I will respectfully disagree but that’s a kinda low bar. The FQ restaurants generally suck with a few notable exceptions.
I’m sure if you’re a tourist it’s great.

I agree.

f I had to answer the dinner question it would be Clancy's
I don’t know if recommended Clancy’s for the food. We’ve been recently and had some rank fish. It was the trout special. Terrible. The last 3 times we had sketchy seafood. Ambiance and location great but beware. Not to knock, but if you like seafood like we do, I’d go elsewhere.

I would call this a hot take. I can think of 7 id rather eat at off the dome. With Palm & Pine being the best restaurant in the FQ currently

Not really - it's a really good restaurant. I mean, I get it. It's cool to hate on things like GW Fins, but come on. To be fair though, I'm not dying to dine at a restaurant with a DJ playing music in the background.

I don’t think it’s bad, it’s just not the best restaurant in the FQ. There are many great restaurants in those square blocks, so that isn’t an insult.

Damn - I was headed there next month.
Rethinking that now.

I'd like to know what restaurant you think has better quality seafood than GW Fins. Because I think what they do with the dry aged blue fin is amazing.

It’s hard to argue when framed that way, as they are the only dedicated, upscale seafood restaurant in New Orleans that I can think of.
Peche has a cartoony reputation on here but that spot is really really reliable.
A place like Brigsten’s does seafood well, in the more old school New Orleans style. He has several seafood dishes & appetizers.
Both are quite different, but would rather eat at both for a seafood fix more my style.

GW Fins for dinner hands down
Broussard's for brunch is always solid but there are plenty brunch places that are delicious
Not sure how many people will be at each meal but Venezia is a smaller Italian place that is fantastic

very surprised you never tried it. It's highly recommended and GWF most popular dish when on the menu.
