It’s hard to overstate how high U.S. Rep. Garret Graves was riding a year ago.
He had just helped corral the votes of Republican colleagues to elect Kevin McCarthy speaker of the House. That put Graves in line for a plum position.
Back home in Baton Rouge, Graves was so popular that major GOP donors were beseeching him to run for governor as an alternative to then-Attorney General Jeff Landry, the more conservative frontrunner.
Today, Graves’ world seems to be crashing down.
quote:
He managed to antagonize both Landry and U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise in 2023, and around the same time, federal courts unexpectedly signaled that Louisiana would have to draw a new congressional map to create a second majority-minority district.
As a result, Landry – now the governor – and the Republican-controlled Legislature last week carved up Graves’ once-safe 6th Congressional District to create a second Black-majority seat in Louisiana, a move that could put him out of Congress next year.
quote:
After deciding not to run himself for governor, Graves ran afoul of Landry by backing the bid of Stephen Waguespack, an ally who was then the head of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry. The other six Republican members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation either supported Landry or didn’t endorse.
Apart from payback, Landry has an additional reason to want to sideline Graves, political insiders say. As a sitting congressman with an ability to raise money, Graves could be a formidable challenger to Landry’s re-election in 2027.
quote:
Graves, meanwhile, upset Scalise by not publicly supporting his bid to be speaker in October after McCarthy resigned – and pointedly questioning the plan to "give everyone one rung of promotion.” Not only that, Graves privately spread the word that Scalise’s cancer diagnosis made him a health risk for the job, Scalise has indicated. Graves has denied this and said he always supported Scalise.

I hope he’s reduced to having his sister give him a job at E&G schmoozing land developers.

Graves has proven himself a RINO and is persona non grata in Louisiana. He is done.

Are there any Republicans running against him this year?

This POS is the Bill Cassidy of the House. Neither try to hide it anymore.
Votes to expel a solid conservative vote but also votes to not censor a legit traitor like Adam Schiff. He’s compromised bc he accepted bribes from the CCP through Sequoia.
I have spoken out against him since the day he said Biden won a fair election & it was time to move on.

Some of y’all have no idea what he’s done for the area.. losing this seat is not a good move by the party as it’s to important to garner infrastructure dollars. Something he’s been very good at accomplishing. He’s not a RINo, he’s pragmatic in trying to gather favors to push through wetland dollars, the only way to do that is to be flexible and curry favors.
ETA. Either the Scalise rumor is BS or you have to admit that he was right. No way he could be performing the duties of speaker at this time.

This is a whitewashed account of how much Graves pissed off people in Louisiana or representing Louisiana in favor of McCarthy.

For many people here if you are a Republican and your name isn’t Donald Trump, then you are the enemy.
Graves was a popular figure in his district that got things done. Now BR won’t have any local representation even though it’s the most populated parish and the second biggest metro area in the state.

He decided to define himself as being a McCarthy hanger on.
We are who we are. And he’s paying the price for being himself.

He elected to swim in the swamp instead of staying out of a no win situation and he ended up hurting himself politically and possibly cost BR.

Because of minority population clusters in LA?

He tried to play the Game of Thrones and lost. The other players were better than him.

So we replace him with a liberal democrat and now a big part of East Baton Rouge Parish will be represented by a twat from Monroe. Good job, “conservative” Jeff Landry.

So you want the congestion and shitty infrastructure in the BR area......got it.
If only he would suck off the orange man more and prance around and make a nuisance of himself like the Used Car salesman and part time Sherriff Deputy.
