let's say you had a budget of $1000 to $1500 and under (under is better and is a quality priority), and the gun (1911 model) is used for shooting and road trips/truck gun, and the pleasantries of how pleasing it is to shoot is top priority, what is the one single 1911 that you would pick?
only one can be named.
your answer will 100% factor heavily into my purchasing process.
also, here's jessica chastain signing autographs

I have quite a few 1911’s. The Springfield Operator in 9mm or 45 will be hard to beat in your price range. You can find OTD for $1100. If you want a 2011 with 19 rd capacity look into Bul Armory SAS. Can be found used on GB for $1400. Helluva gun for the price.

those new Springfield Armory's TRP 1911s are pretty sick, but their MSRP is $1999. your local gun store can probably get a bit cheaper as is always the case.
they also make the Prodigy which is a double stack 1911.

whichever ONE fits YOU the best
go to the local indoor range and test shoot 4-5 different models. The right gun will pick YOU based on comfort and ease of shooting.
I carry a COLT Combat Commander .45. Wife prefers her Springfield Armory 1911 EMP .40 S&W .... It's all a matter of personal choice

I do t have one yet but I’d like to get a Smith & Wesson 1911 in that price range.
I have a Springfield Champion that I love now but I had to completely rebuild it. The gun had a spring lock on it and it had one of the worst triggers I’ve ever seen on it. It was 8-10lbs. I replaced everything in the frame. It now has all STI internals and a 3lbs crisp trigger.

For that budget,I would say a Ruger Stainless Commander.

I had a smith. The Swartz safety system was a deal breaker for me. I had issues with the firing pin safety plunger. It made the gun inoperable. I had it fixed and sold it. Not a fan of the external extractor as well.

I’m with everyone else in here on the Springfields. I’m planning to get a 1911 and I’m looking a the Dan Wesson Specialist but it’s a little out of the price range you are looking for.

There were some police trade in’s popping up on GB a few months ago for $1100-$1400. They were the stainless model. I should have picked one up but really want the duty black finish.Great gun and it was designed for Law Enforcement.

Love my S&W 1911 TE. Match grade barrel, beautiful wood, balanced, and a dream to shoot. Wife even shoots it well.

Buddy of mine had a Mac pistol he had bought a few months ago that was a decent looking gun. He had shot it a good bit and was very pleased with it. He owns several high end 1911’s so he definitely has nice guns to compare it to. I want to say it was a 7-8 hundred dollar gun.
Looked similar to this.
He also had a Staccato that I shot that was a very nice shooter.

I have a colt commander I really like.
Shoots well and it’s a good size. Around 1000$ to 1300$ depends on where you find it.

I really do like my Dan Wesson Commander. Just a bit out of your price range

John Moses Browning sits at God's right hand, so congratulations on your impending purchase of God's chosen pistol.
Honestly, for your budget, I'd buy the best used pistol I could find.
I bet you can get a used Les Baer PM II in great condition for the top end of your budget.
Springfield TRPs and some Dan Wesson models. With those two, you might even be able to swing for a new one if you find the right deal.
Edit: Here's a used Les Baer PM II with a starting bid/no reserve of $1525.
All in (transfer/shipping), you might be around $1600. I have a PMII with about 20,000 rounds through it and it runs like a top. Very good pistols.
With Les Baers, you'll sometimes see what looks like big differences in price for seemingly the same pistol. Most often, the more expensive one is a 1.5" build (tighter tolerances and is more expensive).
An 1.5" @ 50y guarantee is cool if you can shoot that well (most can't), but it's in no way necessary...the lack of it doesn't mean the pistol is NOT accurate.
Most other high end builds (Wilson, etc.) are 1" @ 25y and that accuracy is a function of build quality (parts and tolerances). 1.5" @ 50y is substantial, but the guns are TIGHT. The one I have has 20k through it and it's still hard to break the action sometimes (functions perfectly though, which is amazing with it being that tight). Honestly, it's more of a pain in the arse than the accuracy is worth. A standard build not only fits your budget, but it probably a better pistol for you anyway.

I have an sti trojan - not sure if they make that model anymore, but used should be available. It’s a really good gun. Sent it to Virgil Tripp for a trigger job and it could be my favorite gun.
Anything but a kimber. Stay away from MIM parts - metal injection molding. As long as the slide to frame, and the barrel fit is tight, the other internals can be upgraded to significantly better than commercially available. For gods sake, please don’t buy one with a rail under the bottom. That’s not how JMB wanted it.
