Why DeBoer is a sketchy hire

Deboer has such a weak résumé that if he had lost just one more game this last season, he would've never made even the list of possibles for Alabama, not to mention got the job. And he had several close games. That's how fragile his résumé is. You can't say the same about Saban or Lincoln Riley or Brian Kelly when they were hired.

Career 104-12 record with a recent NCG loss is a weak resume

If Saban had a vagina he’d be the greatest female coach ever in the history of college football

You think I'm wrong? DeBoer loses to Oregon and Washington is not in playoff - is he still considered for Alabama job? Be honest.

Would you have hired Dabo instead?
Y’all act like they had lots of choices
If it’s not an A+ hire it’s at least an A-, right?

Once Lanning was off the table, he was probably the best they could get. Still, not impressive by Alabama standards.
ETA There was a dearth of obvious candidates. Nick Saban always waits too long to quit, as LSU well knows. Then again, we LSU fans didn't think BK was an option when he was hired. Program at Bama's level should've been able to steal a Ryan Day, Lanning, or maybe Daboll. Hell, I've got enough LSU PTSD to imagine a world where they poached BK from us!

Probably not even handsome.

Hires since Bear Bryant retired:
Ray Perkins
Bill Curry
Gene Stallings
Mike DuBose
Dennis Franchione
Mike Price
Mike Shula
Nick Saban
Outside of Saban, DeBoer has the best resume of all the other coaches that Alabama has hired the last 40 years.

Not even Pete.

Were you expecting them to hire Belichick?
Their hires before Saban were Mike Shula, Mike Price, Dennis Franchione, and Mike DuBose. Gene Stallings had a 27–45–1 career college record when Bama hired him.

I mean, I guess
But was anyone going to be?
Lanning saying no (if that’s what actually happened) is a small blow when you can hire an A- guy like DeBoer. And I’ve seen debates saying lots of things.
But in reality Lanning , DeBoer, and Norvell were probably similar tier hires. So who was a better available choice?

Dan Lanning’s resume includes two whole seasons as a HC.

Did you read the list of those 104 wins before you posted this?

I think you are being a little too judgemental. DeBoer is a fantastic hire...of course I'm an LSU fan.

No one we know of, that's my point. Did we know Lincoln Riley was available when USC poached him? Did we know BK was an option when LSU stole him from a team in contention for the playoff? Those are the kind of hires I expected from Alabama.

Considering that Saban wanted to hire Ryan Grubb for OC last season and did a deep dive on the UW program, resulting in him being impressed with Deboer and thus recommending him for the job, I would say YES.

He’s unproven as a coach and definitely as a recruiter. We’ll see how it goes. As an LSU fan I’m not concerned.

Are you under the impression that he was coaching a Washington level team vs. NAIA opponents?
