we rescued ours from a woman that had agoraphobia and kept her in a kennel for the 1st year of her life. the 1st winter we had her, it snowed a few inches here in Birmingham, and we took her out of our apartment to let her see snow for the 1st time - that dog ran, jumped in and rolled in the snow - made my year seeing her get to be a dog.
so glad that 6 years later, we got a house and she has her own massive yard to play in.

The wife and I have three retired greyhounds that we adopted from Ireland. They are the sweetest dogs in the world. I can confirm that they are couch potatoes.

A lot of local shelters are looking for fosters for a few days next week with the cold temps coming,
Yes. Some shelter them outdoors, especially when they're overcrowded, which they often are.
I've already got 9 foster dogs at the house right now after picking up 2 puppies the other day. We got those 2 puppies for this very reason of being kept outdoors. We can at least keep them in our garage.

About time for them to go through two a days.

Great story.
My brother rescued one many years ago. It's amazing that they sleep as much as they do, then when they decide to run - it's on. Video doesn't really allow you to appreciate how fast they are, or the length of their strides. Three strides and they're at full speed. Such sweet dogs, too. My brother's dog loved my kids, and could not have been any more gentle with them.

A blood transfusion from a retired racing Greyhound from Mexico saved my Chihuahua's life.

If I were to ever win one of those big Powerball lotteries, I would set up a sanctuary for dogs.
We recently rescued a stray puppy (8 mo) who had been on the streets his entire life. Watching him (Silas) adjust to living in a home with a loving family has been very heartwarming and rewarding. I tell him he hit the puppy lottery.
We just got the DNA results back on him and he's 50% German Shepard, 20% Australian Cattle Dog, 20% Australian Shepard, 10% Pit, and 10% Lab. He is very high-energy.

Rescued greyhounds are dangerous and should be put down.

I like when dogs go through that what I call “crazy dog mode”. where they run in circles like nothing will stop them….
We call that having the “zoomies”

Some friends rescued them also and had as many as 3 at one time. They were very lazy but also murdered squirrels any chance they got.

I watched some footage taken of a greyhound with a good slo-mo camera and shot from a truck driving along side of the dog as it was running through a big field. Amazing video of it running. They spend more time in the air as they do touching the ground.
