On the Russillo pod, didn't give specifics other than he talked to someone at another school who kicked the tires on hiring Lanning and the buyout was going to be a lot more than $20 mil. Also noted in his contract that the buyout if he were to leave for Alabama would be different than any other school. Maybe it's that and some kind of deal with Nike?

Oregon tried to prevent another bailing coach. But I feel like if Alabama wants this, they will have it.

I'm guessing A&M.

Tim Watts made a post last night saying Kiffin, Sark, and Lanning are all unlikely.

The rumor is that in addition to the $20MM buyout in his contract, he also has $30MM in Nike stock that he only gets when he completes his contract. So Bama would have to come up with something in the $50MM range.

I think bama goes with a proven coach. It’s going to be Dabo. The melts will be glorious. Dabo will wreck the program right into the ground.

Bama confirmed poor if they can’t cough up $20-30M for Dan Lanning’s buyout. Aggie is dishing out close to $80M to kick Jumbo to the curb

This was in regards to Dabo leaving Clemson, he has a lower buyout clause if he leaves for Alabama rather than any other school.

Sounds like some vague BS, and if bama knows who they want they will pay whatever it takes.

Remember bama is mostly responsible for the huge buyouts today from the carousel of coaches in the SEC west trying to compete with them. They haven’t had to pay one of these buyouts by firing their coach since Bush was president.

Alabama hasn’t paid a football buyout in 17 years. They can afford it

If Bama wants Lanning they’ll pay whatever it takes. Think of how Bama’s brand has improved since Saban nationally. That’s worth a bunch of money to maintain.

Literally not exaggerating. Bama would pay 200 mill if they believe he is the next best coach. Stop this nonsense about Bama not paying his buyout, whatever it is, they will pay it.

BAMA is probably only paying a few coordinators buyouts currently I’d assume from a firing here an there, so they are absolutely loaded. They’ll get who they want

Lanning is an obvious choice, he’s young and is familiar with the SEC. But I’d be very leery though of success in the Pac12 compared to success in the more competitive SEC and the $$$ it would take to get him. Seems Norvell would be a better and safer choice.
