Just saw it advertised by Miller’s Mart in Hammond, who has great crawfish, for $14.99 a lb boiled.
They usually charge $4.99 lb this time of year.
And get this, they sold out already.

I don't like crawfish enough to pay that. Hell, haven't had them at a restaurant in years. Shrimp are superior IMO.

Yep

I half assed boycotted them when crawfish never got below $2/lbs. live a few years ago.
We still do a couple of crawfish boils each year with neighbors, but I've been on Team Shrimp since then. Better tasting, better yield, and now cheaper than crawfish.

Same. Shrimp are so much easier in all respects. Especially easier to peel when you have some leftover. I’ve slowly eased my family away from crawfish and toward shrimp over the past couple of years.

Word is they could go up to $9lb live. Already at $8lb live and $14.99lb boiled on my block. Facebook Karens are upset. Weather does affect crawfish as we all know.

and thats why by this weekend it will be $19.99 a pound boiled
as long as idiots overpay, prices will continue to rise

When you figure out how many people you can feed off a few pounds of shrimp, I'm convinced it's cheaper than sandwich meat.

Would bet the size is barely above peelers.

This coming freeze will bump that up a dollar or two

They are lucky they are even getting any to sell.

I get a 5lb box of headless 10-12 gulf shrimp for $35. More than enough for a complete boil for my family and enough leftover to make a good salad for everyone the following day. No way I’m paying those prices for crawfish when 50% or more is waste.

Mind your own bizness when you see me running traps in the drainage ditch off the highway.

Nothing parts faster than a fool and their money.

Its a record price - $4-$5 dollar over what they normally are this time of year wholesale wise
The supply is so bad that only a few people have to be willing to pay that price to keep the price there
25% of the crawfish restaurants are open right now at most and only about 15% of the ponds are being fished right now because its so bad

The farmers who are fishing and the restaurants are losing money right now with the lack of supply
Posted on 1/11/24 at 9:52 am to Midtiger farm
they could be losing money and still be making substantially more than I am
