The article is long, and excerpting would leave something out. It's worth reading yourself.

Instead of a thousand yard stare, he has like a one yard stare. And he’s staring at you. With a hatchet in his hand.

Great article. I’ve read books about the LRDG, and remember his role in navigating for raids. What an amazing life he led.

During the next year Sadler helped set up a new base on Stonington Island, where a glacier (since melted) connected to the mainland. In 2021 the area was named Sadler’s Passage in recognition of his work. Sadler – by then 101 – was gratified by the honour, but saddened that global warming had melted the glacier.

The original baw. Dude had seen and done, in his lifetime, more than 99.9999999% of people on this earth.

From the comments section at the bottom of the linked article in the OP:

The photo of Sadler in the article when he was 91 years old is just incredible....standing straight as an arrow, and probably still just as lethal.

One Jeep sustained a puncture, the captured German pump did not work and they had to stuff blankets into the tyre. But the wheel disintegrated to the point where they were running on the brake drum and had to abandon the vehicle. The other Jeep needed water, but the spare jerry can had been accidentally poured into the petrol tank, leaving the men too without water, and the Jeep stalled. They all peed into the radiator and, at Sadler’s initiative, rigged up a siphon feeding petrol from a spare can into the carburettor.

reminds me of a time my buddy had an old 75 ford with a big block and we got it stuck and it overheated. Poured a 12 pack of keystone beer in the radiator to get it home
